On our previous lesson, we actually learned and understand everything about different business
organization. We also identify the core principles and its importance. Now, in this learning material,
we will focus more on practices that we have to understand and remember when we are committed to
an organization.

We value the practices that we learned from home. We sometimes used those practices when we are
on an event, party or organization. Other than our own practices, organizations also have their own.
We called is as the organizational practices or common practices.

WHAT IS PRACTICE?

 It’s an actual application or use of an idea, belief or method, as opposed to theories


relating to.
 It’s a way of how to perform or exercise the skills repeatedly or regularly in order to
improve or maintain one’s proficiency.
 We can also define it as making a habit of something.

HOW CAN WE SAY THAT IT’S A BEST PRACTICE?

 A best practice or technique that has been generally accepted as superior to any of the
alternatives because it produces results that are superior to those achieved by other means or
because it has become standard way of doing things.
 A procedure that has been shown by research and experience to produce optimal result
and that is established of proposed as a standard suitable for widespread adoption.

What is Organizational Practice?

Organizational practices are behaviors and actions of employees. We also define it as


something that is done a lot and is considered normal. Common practices are also use to
define the success of the organization. In order to establish a strong foundation for the
company and grow the market share. We also have to be careful and to fully research and
understand the common practices in our industry.

8 COMMON PRACTICES

1. Decorum – a correct or proper behavior that shows respect and good manners.

 On time and promptness

 On attire and appearance
 On basic courtesy and respect
 On greetings, handshake and body language
 On formal and informal dress
 On speaking in meetings and listening

2. Protocol – unwritten rules or guidelines that are peculiar to every culture or organization, and are
supposed to be observed by all parties in the conduct of business, entertaining, negotiating, politics, etc.

These common practices help and guide us to make sure that we are actually following what is
the rules and regulations of the organization. It also reflects the professionalism of each
individual.

CODE OF ETHICS AND RIGHT CONDUCT

A code of ethics and professional conduct outlines the ethical principles that govern decisions
and behavior at a company or organization. They give general outlines of how employees should
behave, as well as specific guidance for handling issues like harassment, safety and conflicts of
interest.

A code of ethics in business is a set of guiding principles intended to ensure a business and its
employees act with honesty and integrity.

A code of ethics is broad, giving employees or members a general idea of what types of behavior
and decisions are acceptable and encouraged at a business or organization.

A code of conduct is more focused. It defines how employees or members should act in specific
situations.

Why is Codes of Ethics and Conduct important?

Codes of Ethics is important because it lays out the rules for


behavior and provides the ground work for preemptive

1. Transparency
 Involves accurately representing facts, telling at truth in its entirety and communicating
clearly and openly about everything a company does and says.
2. Integrity
 Sticking with a decision, especially when pressured to do otherwise, shows honor and
courage.
3. Trustworthiness
 Companies that keep promises and fulfill commitments to their employees, business partners
and customers display their commitment to business ethics.
4. Loyalty
 Loyalty encompasses all relationships a business has including those with staff, partners,
investors and consumers. It allows a business to make decisions benefiting these relationships and
overcome influences from outside conflicting interest.
5. Equality
 Companies should strive to act fairly and commit to exercising their power justly. Leaders
should only use honorable methods to gain in advantages over the competition. Fairness relates to
equality, which means having an open mind and treating everyone fairly.
6. Compassion
 Ethical companies demonstrate genuine kindness, understanding and care for livelihood of
others. When a business decision needs to be made, careful consideration of the options and how
each one may affect a person or community helps reduce the potential negative impacts, depending
on the industry.
7. Respect
 Companies that treat all humans with respect regardless of f religion, sex, race nationality or
other signifier are often reviewed positively in the public eye.
8. Lawfulness
 Companies that work within the boundaries of the legal system are more credible and
honorable, which can establish a strong positive reputation as an employer that encourages high-
quality candidates to apply for roles.
9. Responsibility
 Companies have a responsibility to lead with the values and mission of the organization to
make logical decisions that benefit everyone
