MOTIVATION LETTER

EUROPEAN STUDIES ON SOCIETY, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

I am Ahmad furqan, motivated student in International Economics at the National University of

Malaysia, expected to graduate at the end of this year. I appreciate this opportunity to introduce
myself at your University and to apply for the programme Master in European Studies on
Society, Science & Technology at the Maastricht University. With my educational background
and working experience in the field of social economic development, I strongly believe that I am
suitable candidate for the programme.

First time I heard about Netherlands when I was in elementary school. As I know Netherland is
one of country who colonized Indonesia. Since childhood I really interested for studying in
Netherland. Colonized by a country doesn’t mean we got no advantages, Netherlands has many
cultures and social development that we should learn about. I have developed strong interest for
the issues regarding science & society. Especially international society development. As we
know the globalization continues to run, and we need innovation to keep the sustainable of
society by focuses on develops ethical awareness and public responsibility

Currently I am registered at one of Malaysian best university (National university of Malaysia). I

am taking economics course for my undergraduate level. Actually I really want study in
international society development. I love concern about development society issues , even less if
ranges deep social international. I really like English, but I'm less inclined to continue this
course, I felt better suited in the field of Society, Science & Technology, as for me, English is
still one of the international language of the absolute each person must have as a global
communication in the era of globalization. Through this scholarship offer, I feel confident and
believe that, this is an opportunity for me to reach my dream since childhood to become a social
scientist . Since I was sitting in high school I was like this field. I am interested in multicultural
and learn about variety of cultural studies, innovation studies and social studies.

My planning after I received f email from this scholarship offer, which is international quality
basis. I perceive opportunity for continue my studying in master level is opened. I wish to pursue
my master in Netherlands . My main reason why I am chooses this Maastricht University,
because internationalized curriculum and program design give a credit plus for me, Some
universities are pioneering the development period of study abroad are taught in English, and
provides an opportunity to learn a foreign language. This is a development that very useful for
me who want to achieve an understanding of how society, science and technology are conducted
in countries other nations, but has a limited knowledge of the language. This can also be taken at
various stages of master programs, providing continuous access to the development of linguistic
skills. And chance to joining with another international student and Netherland student will give
a worth experience. Even then I will also learn Dutch language. At least I can utilize Dutch
language in daily conversation. Learning international multicutural, English and Dutch
languange, It is will be awesome. I also impressed with building design at Netherland building
who gets classic pattern and modern. Affiliate among landscapes pattern and church makes a
good studying environment. Obviously it becomes affinity for international student.

 Brief description of applicant’s present position and responsibilities

If I selected in this program, I will use this opportunity well. And I'm sure I can be the best
graduates. I will be active in organizing on-campus organizations that can increase knowledge
and support academic achievement. By involved to be active in organization will foster a sense
of leadership attitudes, good problem solver and the spirit of cooperation within a team. From the
aspect of culture, maybe I'll meet with other students of his from various peoples and ethnic,
which must have their respective cultures. And this will increase my knowledge and experience
to establish fraternal relations with other people who have differences cultural

I wish I could be accepted as a grantee, this will motivate me to hard work, what happening in
the future at specified what will happen at this time.

 Plan after completing study at Maastricht University.

As long as I can remember I've known what I wanted to do with my life. Science has always
been my passion, and international society development in particular has interested me for some
time. Dedicating my life to improving the lives of others is very appealing to me. Upon
completion of the study program at Maastricht University, I plan to take my Phd program in
international society and development until finally I was able to become a lecturer at the
university of international standard. I am sure this program offer me valuable skills that can not
be taught in a regular classroom and will become a great stepping stone toward achieving my
dreams.
