b. A feather is dropped on the moon from a height of 1.40 meters. The


acceleration of gravity on the moon is 1.67 m/s2. Determine the time for the
feather to fall to the surface of the moon.

2. a. A tank with a mass of 120 kg as in figure 1 has a part of rectangle and a


cylinder shape with the same length is fully filled with a liquid. Given width,
l = 1.5 m, height, t = 2.5 m, length, p = 5 m and the diameter, d = 1.5m.
Solve
the:

i. Total volume of the tank

ii. Density of the liquid if its relative density is 0.7

iii. Total mass of liquid in the tank

iv. Work done to move the tank at a distance of 5 m if the it is fully filled
with the liquid.

b. A block of mass, m = 10 kg is sitting on a surface inclined at angle θ = 45°.


Given that the coefficient of static friction is μs = 0.5 between block and
surface, what is the minimum force, F necessary to prevent slipping? What
is
the maximum force F that can be exerted without causing the block to slip?

3. a. A baseball is popped straight up into the air and has a hang-time of


6.25 s. Determine the height to which the ball rises before it reaches
its peak. (Hint: the time to rise to the peak is one-half the total hang-
time). NOTE: the time required to move to the peak of the trajectory is
one-half the total hang time - 3.125 s.)

the weight of a car with a mass of 1500kg.

4. a. Determine the number of turn of rope to be wound around the trunk of a


tree
in order to support a man weighing 800 N in a pan as shown in figure ()

a force of 10 N. The coefficient of friction, μ = 0.3.

speed. Determine the acceleration of the plane and the time required to
reach this speed.

5. a. A test for mild steel rod is being done with a maximum load showed by the
tester is 170 kN. The radius of the mild steel rod is 10 cm and with a length
of 0.8 m. The Young Modulus for the mild steel is 210 GPa. Assume Factor

b. The cylindrical piston of a hydraulic jack has a cross-sectional area of 0.08


m2 and the plunger has a cross-sectional area of 0.004m2.

i. The upward force for lifting a load placed on top of the large piston is
11 000 N. calculate the downward force on the plunger required.

ii. If the distance moved by the plunger is 95cm, what is the distance
moved by the large piston?
