1. After all systematic errors have been eliminated, the several measured lengths of a line are
112.36m, 112.35m, 112.38m, 112.32m, 112.33m, and 112.30m. Assuming the variations results
from accidental errors, determine the most probable value of the measured length.

2. The angles about a point have the following observed values: 87𝑜07′50′′ ; 125𝑜17′20′′ 𝑎𝑛𝑑
147𝑜35′20′′. Determine the most probable value of each of these angles.

3. The interior angles of a quadrilateral were observed to be: 𝐴 = 100𝑜35′40 ′′; 𝐵 = 118𝑜44′15′′;
𝐶 = 80𝑜54′35′′𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐷 = 59𝑜45′50 ′′ . Determine the most probable value of each of these angles.

4.

4. A distance is measured with a tape to be 151.9m and the same distance is measured with an
EDM instrument as 152.5m. Assume that experience indicates that the electronically measured
distance is twice as good as the taped distance. Determine the mpv of these observation.

5. Suppose that the interior angles in a triangle ABC were observed by the same operator using
the same instrument, but the number of repetitions for each angle varied. The results were: 𝐴 =
45𝑜15′25′′ , 𝑛 = 4; 𝐵 = 83𝑜37′22′′ , 𝑛 = 8 ; 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶 = 51𝑜07′39′′ , 𝑛 = 6. Adjust the angles.

8. Two sides of a rectangular lot were measured with certain estimated probable errors as
follows: 𝑊 = 253.35 ± 0.06 𝑚 and 𝐿 = 624.15 ± 0.08 𝑚. Determine the area of the lot and the
probable error in the resulting calculation.
