Cyberbully is an act of harrassing or torturing someone, mentally or psychologically, through various medium
using gadgets such as mobile phone, computer, laptop, tablet and many others. These perpetrators will hide
their identity and create a fake account so that they can continuously bullying without being tracked. They will do
this dirty job either using text messages (whatsapp, sms, facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.) or by voice (phone
calls, skype, video call, videos, etc). In can be in form of scam, threat, shaming, group bully and many more.
Research done by several parties revealed that perpetrators of cyberbullying experienced higher rates of
loneliness due to a lack of affection by family members and the society around them. Bullying people online is
their attempt to seek attention from strangers to fulfill their free time. One of my students experience this, and
report to me by her parents. As a discipline teacher, i had go through the whole scenario. The perpetrator in this
case was a girl who her parents were busy working. She was provided with handphone and unlimited internet
service, to reduce her loneliness at home. What she did to this victim is, she created a whatsapp group among
classmates, and in this group she lead the group to harass the victim badly. She wrote inappropriate words
about appearances, family background, academic level and so on. To cut this short, the mother of this victim
lodge a report but finally settled between both family. The is no concrete reason behind this action, but only just
for fun, which impossible to be accepted in our community. Personally, I don't think that banned from such apps
can be a good solution. If one account banned, they still can create hundred of accounts after that. Many social
media apps imposed account to be suspended, and banned or blocked at the end, but, one new account created
by the user later, which proved that this is not the solution. I believe that we need to categorize the level of case,
how big is the post-effect, and the age range of both victims and perpetrators. If the case controllable, maybe we
can suggest for counselling, or if worst,, maybe intermidation of police required, as a lesson.
