TYPES OF

DIMENSIONING
COMMANDS
THAT CAN BE USED FOR CIMPUTER-
AIDED DRAWINGS
Dimensioning in AutoCAD is automatically taken
care of by the dimension command. AutoCAD
dimensions are special blocks which can easily be
edited or erased, as necessary.

You can create horizontal, vertical, aligned, and

radial dimensions with the DIM command. The
type of dimension depends on the object that you
select and the direction that you drag the
dimension line.
This layer is usually created automatically when a dimension is created in your AutoCAD
drawing.

This layer stores information about definition points of dimensions.

Objects on this layer are visible in drawing area but these objects will not appear when you
plot your drawing.

Essentially plotting is turned off for Defpoints layer.

Some rules in Dimensioning:

The measurements should always be written above the dimension

lines.
The dimension line must be 10mm or 1cm from the object.
Overall dimensions of the OBJECT are placed outside all other
subdimensions
Refrain from double entry dimensions and omit obvious
dimensions.
There should be 0.1 cm or 1mm gap between the object and the
extension line
Dimensions must be placed to be read from the right and bottom of
the drawing.

it will be manufactured.
RADIUS DIMENSION (DRA)
Gives the radius of arc, circle, or arc
segment of a polyline
DIAMETER DIMENSION (DDI)
Gives the diameter of arc, circle, or arc
segment of a polyline
LINEAR DIMENSION (DLI)
-Used for straight lines either horizontal
or vertical.
ALIGNED DIMENSION (DAL)
Used for straight lines that are angled.
ANGULAR DIMENSION (DAN)
- Gives the angle measurement
between two points.
ARC LENGTH DIMENSION (DAR)
Gives the length of an arc or arc
segment of a polyline
OTHER VARIABLES TO SET:

Linetype Scale (LTS) Multiline(MLST, ML) Viewport (VPORT)
