A day in a Life of a Supervisor
Supervisor’s Philosophy

Educational leaders influence change and implement initiatives to strengthen teaching and learning
practices, communities, and cultures (Keppell et al., 2010; Mårtensson & Roxa, 2016; STLHE, n.d.).
The primary value of supervision comes from having a safe and supportive environment in which
the supervisee can build on their own skills and insights as a practitioner, and in which the
supervisee can reflect on any aspect of their profession and their client relationships.

Supervision is like linking a dep Ed program to the field meaning we are like hauling a
container of water to the other one to make it full of water and then back to the first one,
meaning the DEPED program should be relay or should be link to the grass roots, so
meaning we have to be committed to manage, to develop, to process what is being
implemented in the program to the field in quality output. For now, even the textbook is very
wrong there are errors in the book it should be plan and review fully before sending it so not
only to develop manage and process the program but also to evaluate.
My mantra in life is to help improve the DEPED not only Moises Padilla, La Castellana but
the whole system, because we know that the system of the DEPED is not, it keeps on
changing. I know you are with me it’s not good. We speak on quality but really it is not
quality in the implementation of the program because it keeps on changing experimenting…
and we spend much on nothing.
- Dr. Enedina M. Madrileño

The supervisor philosophy focuses on the development of the system in Department of

Education, not only to implement the program of the DEPED but also to evaluate it. According to
Kabeyi, Moses (2019) evaluation is an effective instrument that can be used to address accountability
for results and value added for learning purpose and knowledge development, strengthen leadership
role and governance as well as facilitate reforms that influence the lives of people. Being a supervisor
not only focuses on the implementation of the program and instruction not only the processes the
development of the program but also program needs to be evaluated. Evaluation is needed to know if
the program is effective or not also to check the errors in the program.

and the teacher to achieve the goal or to fully implement the program of DEPED. Clinical supervision
relationship is evaluative, extends over time and has the simultaneous purposes of enhancing the
professional functioning of the more junior person and monitoring the quality of the professional
services. (Bernard and Goodyear, p8). Clinical supervision in education refers to a procedure where a
more seasoned educator or supervisors a less seasoned educator to help them develop their
teaching abilities and improve student learning results. In teacher education programs, clinical
supervision is a standard practice. It is also employed in instructors' continuous professional
development.

Implication
Ma’am Enedina philosophy and Actions help the implementation of the program of
Department of Education, evaluating a program can help identify areas of the program that are
working well and areas that need improvement. This can lead to changes in program design or
implementation, which can improve the program's effectiveness and increase its impact. She also
improves the performance of the teacher through clinical supervision. Fostering professional growth
and development, clinical supervision can help educators grow and develop professionally by
providing opportunities to learn new skills, gain experience, and receive feedback on their
performance.

Coping ways
The supervisor encounters ethical problems such as confidentiality and privacy, emergency,
evaluation process, unprofessional behavior of the supervisee, and multiple relationships.
Consultation, getting literature support and having a strong supervision relationship with the
supervisee are the most frequently used coping methods (Koçyiğit, Melike. 2022). Being a supervisor
can be a rewarding but challenging role. Effective supervisors are able to manage these challenges
by developing strong communication and organizational skills, and by prioritizing self-care and
ongoing learning.

Up to now they show immorality, there were times a wife came to my office because miss
so and so have a relationship. So, I have to fix it. The biggest one is the debt the utang sa
mga maestra. There was even a case they keep on asking me, the lender keep on calling
me even when I retired they keep on calling me that “maam so and so have not paid the
amount of..”Adultery and the debt is the biggest challenge.

According to ma’am Madrileno the biggest challenge she encounters as a supervisor was the dept of
the teachers and the immorality. According to Koçyiğit and Melike There are numerous factors in
supervision that can cause difficulty for the supervisor and reduce the effectiveness of the
supervision. These factors include meeting the needs of the supervisees, agreeing with the
supervisee about supervision goals, providing effective feedback, determining the appropriate
supervision methods and techniques, establishing an effective supervision relationship, to addressed
multicultural issues ethically, etc (2021). There are many challenges that a supervisor may face, In
the case of Ma’am Madrileno the Immorality in the form of adultery and depts are the biggest

I call their attention. Gin patawag ko. I talk to them. They have know!! That what they are
doing is wrong! we have grievance committee to deal with the problem and also procedures.

challenge she faced during her supervision, these forms of immorality in education can have serious
consequences for the individuals involved, as well as for the educational institution as a whole. It is
important for educators to uphold ethical standards and to create a safe and supportive learning
environment for all students. Supervisor can address these issues by implementing policies and
procedures to prevent and respond to instances of immorality in education.

Ma’am Madrileno Said that calling the attention of the teacher involve is the first thing she did
and they have grievance committee to deal with the problem and that includes her. A grievance
committee is a group of individuals who are appointed to hear and address complaints from
employees or other individuals who have grievances related to their workplace or organization. The
committee is typically made up of the principal, school head and supervisor etc. the committee
typically follows a set of procedures for receiving, investigating, and resolving grievances, which may
include holding meetings with the parties involved, gathering evidence, and making recommendations
for resolution.

Implication

The function of supervisors extends beyond just supporting the growth of the faculty, students,
and institution. Supervisors must deal with the ethical issues that instructors encounter, as doing so
promotes responsibility and accountability in educators. It encourages a culture of professionalism
and moral conduct, which may improve student outcomes and the effectiveness of the educational
system as a whole.

It is crucial to make sure that the high ethical and professional standards that are expected of
teachers are respected. If ethical issues are not addressed, the educational system's reputation will
suffer, as will public confidence.

The supervisor's role in resolving these issues is vital. A manager is in charge of enforcing
moral standards, encouraging a professional work environment, and making sure that teaching and
non-teaching staff follow any applicable laws.

Supervision we are task to have an interview to a supervisor. Thank you for accepting our request to be our
interviewee.
Interviewee: Good day ma’am, you are very much welcome.
Interviewer: May I start maam?
Interviewee: okay
Interviewer: How was life being a supervisor?
Interviewee: Being a supervisor is not really a joke, there are so may task to perform. Not Not only for the
performance of the teacher, for the improvement of the school of the different district, because I was a district
supervisor before, and there are so many problems to encounter like a , student or pupil problems, relationship
of teachers between teachers, relationship of pupils and teachers, relationship of teachers and parents and
other people and other stakeholders in the community like the LGU we also have to deal with them and we
cannot avoid problems with them.
Interviewee: What time do you usually go to school
Interviewer: at 7:00 am I am already there. Or even before 7: o0. You know I have to be there early so I can
check the teachers and the students also to show the teachers that punctuality is important.
Interviewee: After work hours do you still rendered extra time for paper works?

Interviewee: Of course!! After I have to sacrifice my time even during night I still work. You have to know that if
you become a teacher you have to sacrifice your time. More if you become a supervisor.

Interviewer: Did you dream to become a supervisor?

Interviewee: Yes! That is one of my targets in life to be a district supervisor, before I I was not. But soon I
really want to be a district supervisor because, I am… I was Planning to be a master teacher 3 noh. But ah..
but I train teachers I also train district supervisors ,so I ask myself why not force me to be a district supervisor
because I was training district supervisors like that. So it was really a peak of my life to be a district supervisor,
although that it is so short .because ah.. I was ahh, I decided to be a district supervisor, that was in 2009. 2003
I was promoted as principal in other district in la Castellana. And then after that it went on to principal 2 then
principal 3 and last the district supervisor. So 2003 principal 1, 2005 principal 2 and in 2009 district supervisor.
And I retired as district supervisor in 2015, I was already 65 I have no other choice because I am already 65 I
have to stop wala na. I am planning to be a division superintendent but I have no more time because I am
already 65 mandatory age to retire na that’s it.
Interviewer; as a district supervisor what is your philosophy.

Interviewee: Mantra? My mantra in life is to help improve the DEPED not only Moises Padilla, Lacastellana
but the whole system, because we know that the system of the DEPED is not, it keeps on changing. I know
you are with me it’s not good. We speak on quality but really it is not quality in the implementation of the
program because it keeps on changing experimenting… and we spend much on nothing.
Interviewer: what is your biggest challenge or struggles as a district supervisor.
Interviewee; aysus. The solution of the problems of the teachers, the relationship of the teachers, there are so
many teachers who are hmmm… Up to now they show immorality, there were times a wife came to my office
because miss so and so have a relationship. So, I have to fix it. The biggest one is the debt the utang sa mga
mestra.there was even a case they keep on asking me, the lender keep on calling me even when I retired they
keep on calling me that “maam so and so have not paid the amount of…”Adultery the debt is the biggest
challenge.
Interviewer: How did you deal with that problem maam?
Interviewee:I call their attendtion. Gin patawag ko. I talk to them. They have know!!.That what they are doing is
wrong no!! we have grievance committee to deal with the problem and also procedures.
Interviewee: Can you tell us as a supervisor before is the instruction that you have given in the teachers
were implemented?
Interviewee: Yes, somehow there are some teachers did not follow what is being introduced to the field. So
what are we going to do we should have clinical supervision. Clinical supervision, because there are teachers
or some teacher before again in my supervisor also they did not follow so we go back to that particular teacher
and do some clinical supervision if you are given this what will you do because you can't say “hoy wrong
evaluation, it is not related to your objective” so you cannot say that. You will ask the teacher if you given the
chance what will you do in order the people amo na. Aligned with your objective rephrase again your
question..

Interviewer: One thing you are proud of being a supervisor

Interviewee: I promotes the performance of our pupils and the district where I assigned. It’s not only
supervision I deal with but also mentoring the parents to help children performance in school for example quiz
bee before we do not hire trainers but we are self-train, skillfully not only contestants but also parents because
we know that parents is the first hand experienced the first-hand learning of their children. I was very happy to
teach the parents what to do, how to do, how to implement the skills. We are really proud that we are always
the champion in La Castellana before. I am mathematic coordinator I train the students the parents I pulled out
the students and their classes so that we able to be a champion in quiz bee or in math challenge and also in
the Moises Padilla.

Interviewer: What are your dream and aspirations

Interviewee: My dream is to live a simple life to serve God to serve my family and to live a simple life. Simple
and peaceful life that was I remain single because I want to live a simple life.
Interviewer: Why did you take up education?
Interviewee: First my dream is to be an accountant but because when I enrolled to UNOR I join my cousin to
enrolled also in education in UNOR that is why I found myself taking education program in UNOR. It’s not my
choice, it is not my fashion to be a teacher before but now I'm in to it. I’m committed to be a teacher until now.
Commitment is the best. Being a teacher you must be committed not only you are responsible, but the
concern, not only concern what else committed, conscious ways of dealing with people, courageous you must
have courage to face realities.
Interviewer: So far ma'am do you have any meassage like hambalon sa mga teacher nga gusto mg
supervisor or a message kung ano ang tandaan nla.
Interviewee: Supervision is like linking a dep Ed program to the field meaning we are like hauling a container
of water to the other one to make it full of water and then back to the first one, meaning the Deped program
should be relay or should be link to the grass roots, so meaning we have to be committed to manage, to
develop, to process what is being implemented in the program to the field in quality output. For now even the
textbook are very wrong there are errors in the book it should be plan and review fully before sending it so not
only to develop manage and process the program but also evaluate.

Interviewer: What should school focus or encourage Kada school ano dapat ila improve ang eh improve nla
o eh fucos
Interviewee: The program is achieved the performance is will facilitated will done by the school head nad
supervisor is not kadto to kaon lng , No , it more of kaon is not more of pag abot nya kaon No…palakpalak to
impress the principal and supervisor. The most important is instruction, technical instruction, technical
supervision is more of skill that will achieved by the pupils.
Interviewer: thank you ma’am for sharing your experiences and knowledge to us.
Interviewee: thank you as well.

Reflection

Being a supervisor can be both rewarding and challenging. On one hand, supervisors have the
opportunity to work closely with teachers and other educators to support their professional
development and improve the quality of education for students. This can be a very fulfilling role, as
supervisors can see the impact of their work in the classroom and in the achievements of students.

On the other hand, being a supervisor can also be challenging. Supervisors may need to
address difficult issues, such as poor performance or behavior concerns, with teachers. As mention
by our interviewee the most challenging issue she faced during her supervision is the debt of
teachers and teachers accused of adultery, this issues generally considered unethical and can have
serious consequences for a teacher. The role of supervisor in solving these problems is crucial, a
supervisor must investigate and be fair in solving the problems. Not only solving the problems of
teacher’s supervisor may also need to balance the needs of different stakeholders, such as parents,
students, and administrators. Additionally, supervisors may face time pressures and competing
demands that can make the job stressful.

Overall, being a supervisor requires strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. It also
requires a deep understanding of education and a commitment to improving teaching and learning.
While the role can be challenging at times, it can also be very rewarding for those who are passionate
about education and dedicated to supporting the growth and development of teachers.
