2 Department of Agricultural Extension

6.2.1 Recent Achievement:
Through the refinement of extension activities, the cumulative yield of rice has ascended to a
formidable 1164.97 lakh metric tons across the fiscal years spanning from 2020-21 to 2022-
23. Simultaneously, the amalgamated output of food grains, comprising rice, wheat, and
maize, attains a substantial 1190.30 lakh metric tons.
Facilitating knowledge diffusion within the agrarian milieu, an imposing 9.44 lakh
demonstrations have been orchestrated to propagate cutting-edge technological advancements
directly to the agricultural stratum.
Concurrently, a noteworthy 22.23 lakh farmers have undergone training in contemporary
agricultural methodologies over the past four years, a commendable 39% of whom are
women. This concerted endeavor aspires not only to elevate productivity but also to foster
gender-inclusive agricultural practices, reflecting a commitment to socio-economic parity.
Confronting the imperative of soil health preservation, a prolific 23.10 lakh units of compost
and vermicompost fertilizers, strategically disseminated in homesteads and their proximate
areas, have been deployed by farmer families. This conscientious approach underscores the
steadfast commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and the overarching objective of
environmental stewardship.
Moreover, a noteworthy reduction in pesticide application is discernible, as the quantity has
dwindled from 42,240.56 metric tons in 2010 to a more judicious 37,422 metric tons in 2020.
This prudent employment of pesticides attests to a more ecologically responsible approach,
simultaneously safeguarding the vitality of ecosystems and mitigating potential environmental
hazards.
In the sphere of afforestation and environmental equilibrium, an impressive 4,90,02,100 trees,
ranging both fruit-bearing and medicinal varieties, have been meticulously planted over the
past three years. This afforestation initiative, an laudable undertaking, underscores
Bangladesh's unwavering commitment to biodiversity conservation and climate resilience,
fortifying the national environmental equilibrium.
During the last 3 years, Bangladesh made a noteworthy foray into the agricultural export
domain, amassing a commendable sum of 24.09 lakh M. tons from the exportation of diverse
agricultural products. This robust engagement underscores the nation's strategic commitment
to harnessing its agricultural businesses on the global stage, heralding a promising trajectory
in international trade.
