BEGINNER FRIENDLY
CROCHET SCRUNCHIE
SIZE
This scrunchie is made in one size, medium.
Diameter: 6 in or 15 cm
MATERIALS
Yarn (50g of any aran weight yarn, in any
color of choice)
Size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hook or size
needed to obtain gauge.
Hair Elastic
Tapestry needle
GAUGE
Using a 4.5 mm hook and a category 4 yarn, 5
rows of 10 dc will give you a 2.5 in by 2.5 in
square or 6 cm by 6 cm square
THINGS TO NOTE
It is important that you check your gauge
before you start working on the project.
This pattern is written in US terminology.
The whole scrunchie is worked in rounds,
which indicates that there is a right side
and wrong side, and you're working only
on the right side(a.k.a the side facing
you).
The number of stitches for each round is
indicated in a bracket at the end of the
rounds.

ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain; cm = centimetres; dc = double crochet; hdc =
half double crochet; in = inches; rnd = round; rs = right
side; sl st = slip stitch; st(s) = stitch(es); tc = treble
crochet.
INSTRUCTIONS
Grab your yarn and make double knot around the elastic
to secure it. Insert your hook into the elastic and make a 1
chain
round 1 (rs): ch 1, work 50 sc around the elastic (if you’re
using a bigger elastic, make more sc until the elastic is
completely covered), sl st into the first sc of the rnd. [50
sc]
round 2: ch 3 (counts as a dc), work 2 dc into the first st, 3
dc into the next and 3 dc into all the sts, sl st at the end of
rnd. [150 dc].
round 3: ch 4 (counts as a tc), work 1 tc into the first st, 2
tc into the next and 1 tc into all the sts of the rnd, sl st at
the end of the rnd. [300 tc]
Fasten off and weave in all loose ends.
