Students use ordinary bag to bring some important and valuable stuff wherever they want

to go. However, it is not reliable to put high value product inside the bag due to its lack of

security feature. Stealing is huge concern in the present world, that's why the idea of developing

and creating a modernized type of bag must go on with. The Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and

GPS which is slightly expensive, but helpful solution for protecting one's personal belongings.

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS is a type of bag with built-in security feature and it has

a fingerprint device which can detect if the bag is yours or not and it also has GPS or global

positioning system to locate the exact location of the bag. The purpose of this study is to

determine the level of awareness of grade 12 Senior High School students of STI College

Cotabato on existing ordinary bag. The research design used is Quantitative method then

stratified random sampling was also used to determine the number of respondents from different

strands who represent for the total population of grade 12 students. The result shows that

majority of the respondents experienced being victim of thieves. The study also reveals that

CHAPTER I

This chapter presents the introduction of the study, the review Related Literature,

theoritical framework, conceptual framework, the statement of the problem, the significance of

the study and the definition of terms.

Introduction

Nowadays, stealing of valuable things or stuff inside the bag is one of the major

concern of every individual. An ordinary bag is use to bring some things that is important and

things that are light to bring wherever you want to go to, a none heavy materials that suits for the

basic needs. In a modern generation like today is composed of several technologies and that is

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
why the ideas to be develop or innovate must go on with. The primary and major problem of an

ordinary bag faces nowadays is the stealing, stealing is everywhere so that safety issues are

prone. Especially to all bags that are capable of having important matters when it comes to

public. Thought it helps the people with their belongings specifically to the students but for the

safeness of all it, so that it should be improve. According to Charlton (2018), rumors and

incidents specially to the students like drugs, knives and guns being stored in lockers brings into

question the age old practice of assigning hall room lockers to students. In many schools across

America, backpacks have taken the place of locker. The days of struggling with stubborn lock

combinations, balancing armloads of books and racing through hallways to beat the tardy bell to

retrieve

essential materials are virtually gone. However, recent health and securing issues have raised

alarm about backpacks also being used to hide contraband and weapons.

In using ordinary bags there are a lot of possible challenges that can be faced. It

causes the students worries and required full attention especially when they put something

expensive inside since the bag since it is not hundred percent secured. Ordinary bags used low

quality fabric hence get robbed and damage easily. Especially today, bag manufacturer

focuses on the design of the bag to get or catch the attention of the buyers without considering

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
the durability of the bag. Ordinary bag is not suitable to use when it is raining since the fabric

being used is not waterproof and it might damage the stuff or things inside the ordinary bag.

In this research study entitled anti-theft bag with fingerprint and GPS, the

researchers have come up with an alternative and basic way to track down and catch thieve;

The designed bag is not only for fashion purpose but also as a helper and at the same time

burden less works from policemen. The research product has four (4) main feature. First, the

zip of this backpack compartment will be covered. Second, this bag composed of GPS so

that if the owners forgot where they put their bag, it is easy for the owner to find it with the

use of GPS which is connected to their mobile phone to locate the location of the bag. The

third is the researcher’s bag is multi-purpose; you can use the bag in many different ways,

for example you want to make the backpack into a shoulder bag, then you can make it

easily since the will be designed to become a multi-purpose bag. Lastly is the main feature

of the researchers bag is the fingerprint device, it is use to detect if the bag is yours or not,

and if you are the owner of the

bag your fingerprint will be programmed to the device, when you’re not the owner and you

try to open it, the bag will alarm. In this design, the bag can help lessen the crimes of

thievery. The electronic technology like GPS and fingerprint sensor can give confidence to

the people who uses it and discourage thieves because there is a high chances of failure and

being caught. Bags designed with anti-theft security system can protect the belongings

inside it more effectively compared to the normal bag without anti-thief security system.

surely protect your personal belongings.

Review Related Literature

This chapter presents a detailed review of relevant literature on the researchers study

entitled Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of awareness of Grade 12 Senior High

School students of STI College Cotabato on existing ordinary bag.

Stealing in classroom affects one's self-confidence

Students around the world steal for a variety of reasons. Some students steal simply

caused by wanting an item due to their insecurities and haven't developed the impulse control to

curb their behavior. Other students steal to express unhappiness or distress, or to get back at

someone they believe has wronged them. Still others steal to gain status with their peers or to get

attention from their teachers. According to Aristotle's normative moral theory of stealing as cited

by ( Dimmock , 2017 ) those people who engage in the act of stealing on the basis of rashness,

shamefulness and irascibility will not be considered as a moral or a good behavior. Thus, those

students who engage in such particular action might prone to embarrassment and this

embarrassment may lead the students to lost or determinate their self-confidence and self-esteem

and it might affect their academic performance in school as well as their personal behavior.

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
According to Shore's (2016), Whatever the motivation for stealing, when responding to

a theft, there are three goals or things to do: to return the item to its owner, to identify the guilty

student, and to respond to him with a mixture of firmness and understanding. If there have been a

number of incidents of stealing inside the classroom, students will also want to consider how to

prevent their recurrence. These incidents may create conflict and distrust among students, every

individual need to deal with the situation promptly and sensitively. In addition, some researchers

believed that students should not criticize or judge the thieves as it can interfere with learning

and lead to long-term resentment. On the other hand, every individual must be mindful on the

feelings and emotions of others since it is hard to handle feelings of being embarrassed and

humiliated in crowd.

Stealing is uncouth behavior or a bad idea that has put people in troubles and has

affected the offenders in negative ways in their entire lives. Besides, stealing also has negative

impacts on the society hence is usually minimized through laws. On the same note, it brings

legal, social and personal consequences and punishment.

To this day, humiliation remains a common form of punishment, abuse, and oppression.

Conversely, the dread of humiliation is a strong deterrent against crime, and history has devised

many forms of humiliating mob punishments (Burton, 2020). Students , Teachers and even the

society choose to humiliate the guilty students for several reasons: to gain control over them,

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
since the victim is desperate; to frighten other students; or they're over-compensating for their

own lack of confidence. Some victim actually think they have a right to humiliate a guilty

student since the student deserves it due to committing such action like stealing , without

minding the fact that it might damage one's dignity and lost someone's confident.

Guilty students typically face negative consequences in the community including loss

of trust between the members of the society and objection by the family members , teachers and

other students and might experience embarrassment , humiliating and belittling by the others and

it has possible impact on the student confidence and self-esteem.

According to Curwin ( 2015 ), Every student in school deserves the right to feel

emotionally safe from embarrassment and humiliation by peers , by other teachers and staff , and

by other students. When this safety is violated, not only does academic performance suffer, but

also students might never be free of the hurt for the rest of their lives. Thus , if the students feel

humiliated and feel embarrassed by peers and other students will face long-term effects not only

with their physical health but as well as their mental and emotional health.

Thus, every individual should be mindful on the feeling of others , in view to the fact

that all human being deserves to feel emotionally safe from embarrassment or humiliation by the

society , students and peers as embarrassment and humiliation was positively associated with lost

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
of one's dignity and self-confidence . Therefore , Government officials and School administrator

should be aware on the impact of stealing to the students , it which it can be a reason to lost their

dignity and self-confidence and they should put time and effort educate the guilty student about

stealing and its possible consequences since those student who commit such action may have

only a limited understanding of property rights and might need help grasping the consequences

of stealing , both for the thieves and for the victim of stealing. As stealing in or outside the

school is such a common phenomenon today.

Top 5 major advantages of Anti-Theft Backpack

Theft around the world continues to rise and among the victims of theft, travelers and

tourists have always been easy targets for thieves. However, research into investigation of

tourist’s perceptions of and attitudes towards existing designs of Anti-Theft product is scarce.

According to travel brings with it discoveries, new perspectives and experiences that

change the way we the world. It is also a time for caution as it is about making room for an

adventure or two. While exploring new sites and taking in breathtaking views across the globe,

nothing can ruin a vacation quiet like a lost wallet or passport.

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

your personal belongings safely without fear of theft. They make the life of the potential thief

very difficult indeed and chances are high that your Anti-Theft Backpack can break the

reputation of even the most killed thief.

advisable for purchase before you embark on your next foray in traveling unless you use them,

you can never truly appreciate their strengths and advantages.

Stealing during coronavirus pandemic

Cases of theft, stealing, and robbery a cross the country went down by 60 percent

during the 200-day community quarantine period caused by the deadliest Coronavirus disease or

Covid-19. Some studies revealed that crime incidents were reduced by 47 percent nationwide

during the same period. From 5,627 cases during the 200-day period before the quarantine period

was implemented, cases of robbery dropped to only 2,073 from March 17 to October 2,

according to JTF Covid Shield commander Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar.

( Recuenco,2020)

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
According to Pesco (2020), the crime rate in the Philippines dropped by 47 percent

nationwide during the six-month quarantine that the government imposed due to Coronavirus

disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. The 31,661 crime incidents from September 15,2019 to

March 16,2020 decreased to 16,879 from March 17 to September 16, 2020, said Eleazar,

commander of the Joint Task Force Covid Shield. The decline translates to an average of 92

cases per day during

the lockdown period compared to the 172 before the lockdown, according to Eleazar. The Joint

Task Force Covid Shield have been conducting analysis of the crime situation in the past six

months in order to identify or determine the best practices and security adjacements that they

could replicate in other areas and eventually institutionalize in order to sustain this momentum.

In addition, the nine-month community quarantine prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic is being

credited with a decline in crime volume but some experts expressed fear that the lockdown had

aggravated abuse largely caused by restrictions on movement and scant resources.

The eight focus crimes of the Philippine National Police (PNP) consist of murder,

homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, catnapping of motorcycles and catnapping of

vehicles. According to the data showed by the Philippine National Police, the volume of the said

8 focuses crime nationwide had dropped and decreased by 45 percent during the 275 days of

lockdown enforcement. Moreover, the crime volume during the pandemic caused by

Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) was lowest since there were smaller number of people in

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
the streets as everyone are required to stay at home to lessen the transmission of SARS Cov2, the

virus that causes Covid-19 and which is spread mainly by humans.

Since economic activities worldwide were restrained during the national health crises,

Eleazar emphasize its effect on crime against property, which had the biggest decline among the

eight crimes listed by the PNP. These included murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery,

theft, catnapping of motorcycles and catnapping of vehicles.

10

During the pandemic, there is no economic activity especially in the Philippines due to

the past transmission of Coronavirus Virus disease 2019. Hence, there were smaller number of

people outside since the local government required every individual to stay at home to lessen the

transmission of the said virus. Moreover, the Philippine National Police determined and found

out that among all the eight focuses crimes reported in the regional office, the number of crimes

against properties, such as theft, decline further compared with crimes against person.

According to Marquez (2020), comparing figures from pre-lockdown to quarantine

implementation, the PNP said cases of motorcycles theft had the highest decrease with 61

percent, followed by robbery with 59 percent, theft with 57 percent and theft of motor vehicles

with 52 percent. All these are considered as crimes against property. Philippine National Police

records also showed a significant decrease in crimes against persons. It recorded 40 percent

decline of cases of physical injury from 8,546 before the lockdowns to 5,111 during community

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
quarantine. This was followed by homicide cases which decline by 26 percent from 1,276 cases

before the lockdown to 942 during quarantine periods. Police also reported that rape cases fell by

21 percent from 7,274 prior to lockdown to 5,764 during community quarantine. Murder cases

fell by 19 percent from 4,796 prior to lockdown to 3,889 during the nine-month quarantine.

On the other hand, some researchers from different countries believe that there is some

increase in people who engage in the act of stealing specifically to those individuals who are

jobless or facing extreme poverty, they were forced to steal since they are not able to pay for the

items due to the national crises caused by the Coronavirus disease 2019 or Covid-19.

11

According to Bhattaral and Denham (2020), the coronavirus recession has been a

relentless churn of high unemployment and economic uncertainty, the government stimulus that

kept millions of Americans from falling into poverty earlier in the pandemic is long gone, and

new aid still a dot on the horizon after months of congressional inaction. Hunger is chronic, at

levels not seen in decades. The result is a growing subset of Americans who are stealing food to

survive. Shoplifting is up markedly since the pandemic began in the spring and at higher levels

that in past economic downturns, according to interviews across the country. But what is

distinctive about this trend, expert say, is what is being taken – more on staples like bread, pasta

and baby formula. Though shoplifting trends to spike during national crises – it jumped 16

percent after the September 11, 2001 attacks and 34 percent after 2008 recession according to the

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
National Association for Shoplifting Preventions which tracks data from U.S. courts – the

current trend line is skewing even higher, according to Read Hayez a criminologist at the

University of the Florida and the director of the Loss Prevention Research Council.

Despite of the coronavirus outbreak, there are still theft cases identified and reported

everyday and every individual knows that stealing is uncivilized actions that has put people in

difficulties and has affected the lawbreakers in negative ways in their entire lives. However,

according to Corpez (2020), Thomas Aquinas believe that taking another property, whether

openly or secretly, is morally acceptable in extremely rare but ominously not unreal

circumstances. In his magnum opus Summa Theologica, the medieval Catholic philosopher –

saint Thomas Aquinas ask whether it is ethical to steal in a time of extreme necessary. He

answers: if the need to be so

12

manifest and urgent, that it is evident that the present need must be remedied by whatever means

be at hand ( for instance, when a person is in some imminent danger, and there are no possible

remedy) then it is lawful for a man to succor his own need by means of another property by

taking it either openly or secretly: not is this property speaking theft or

Robbery.

There are two reasons why the medieval Catholic philosopher – saint Thomas Aquinas

believe that taking another’s property, whether openly or secretly, is morally acceptable in

extremely rare but ominously not unreal circumstances. First, he thinks that human life is more

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
valuable than lifeless property. In the hierarchy of values, human life is at the top. Proof? Just

observe our trade-offs in an effort to save human lives from COVID-19. Second, he thinks that

private property is not so private after all. There is no such thing as absolute ownership of earthly

goods because ultimately everything belongs to God. Urgent necessity supersedes exclusivity of

ownership. Thomas Aquinas says, “…in cases of need all things are common property, so that

there would seem to be no sin in taking another’s property, for need has made it common.”

Third, if in this rare circumstance of life-threatening necessity everything is commonly owned,

then taking it is not stealing at all! For how can you steal something that you also own by reason

of necessity? So, this is not a case of a good intention (to save ones life) being justified by a bad

means (stealing). The moral law on stealing is not broken. More exactly, the law implicitly

provides a small opening for the faultlessness of a starving person taking (and not stealing)

another person’s food.

13

Thus, amidst the pandemic there are still cases of theft being reported in the regional

authority, due to the extreme poverty. Some individuals are forced to steal since they can’t afford

to provide and pay for their basic necessities since everyone are required to stay at home to

lessen the transmission of Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Hence, almost individual has no

source of income during this outbreak and they were just depending on the government.

Therefore, in order for the people to not reach the desperate point of using their right to steal, the

social institution should works in their favor during the grimmest situation. Local government

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
must prioritize the basic needs of every individual especially during this time of pandemic, so

that the number of crime rates will totally dropped out and the problem of stealing will be solved.

Negative consequences of stealing

Stealing is uncivilized actions that has put people in difficulties and has affected the

lawbreaker in negative ways in their entire lives. Besides, stealing also has negative influence on

the society hence is usually minimized through laws. On the same note, it brings legal, social and

personal consequences and punishment. There are different forms of stealing that range

burglarious act, robbery, unauthorized use of someone’s property or cars, fraud, giving, false

shoplifting and information to credit agency among other. In most cases, the consequences of

stealing can be a Class C misdemeanor, felony charges or death depending on the value of the

items stolen and the circumstances where the activity occurs. Some people have received simple

fines, community service, and jail terms among other people.

14

Stealing is usually prohibited in the society. Thieves usually face damaging

consequences in the community including loss of trust in between the members. In addition to

some society generally tag greater rates for the thieves to make up for the losses and commotions

that they have caused enterprise individuals and the entire society primarily based therefore it is

not advised in the neighborhood standards . Most people treat it as poor moral, dishonest and

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
after becoming charged due to the behavior, the particular person has to bear the permanent

criminal record for his or her complete life. Thus , it has a unfavorable consequence in

personality, respect, and diminishes a person’s opportunities in employment place among other

people. On a similar version, if the perpetrator is an alien, then the particular person might face

deportation and other migration consequences after conviction for the crime.

Stealing cause a big problem for a family when the thief is caught. Besides, stealing

also has negative influence on the society hence is usually minimized through laws. Theft, in law

a general term covering a variety of specific types of stealing, including the crime of larceny,

robbery and burglary.

Stealing is legally and ethically wrong. In conclusion, stealing usually has penalties and

sentences which range for a felony to misdemeanor among others. However, the impacts of

stealing in a person’s life are great irrespective of minor crime.

Production of ordinary bag

Ordinary bags is a container that can be made of thin paper, leather, or plastic with one

or two hands which mainly used for carrying particular or personal things, for vegetable

shopping, for carrying sports gear to the gym, or for lunch box and this have been prevalent for a

hundred years. So it is essential to talk about its importance on how to secure its production or

manufacturing process for quality assurance. A backpack also called knapsack, rucksack,

rucksack, pack, sack pack, book sack, book bag or back sack is, in its simplest frameless form, a

cloth sack carried on one’s back and secured with two straps that go over the shoulders, but it

can have an external frame, internal frame, and there are body packs. According to Ruan (2019),

backpack is a necessity in life, it is good companion for us to travel. Backpacks are commonly

used by hikers and students, and are often preferred to handbags for carrying heavy loads or

carrying any sort of equipment, because of the limited capacity to carry heavy weights for long

periods of time in the hands. Large backpacks, used to carry loads over 10 kilograms, as well as

smaller sports backpacks (e.g. running, cycling, hiking and hydration), usually offload the largest

part (up to about 90%) of their weight onto padded hip belts, leaving the shoulder straps mainly

for stabilizing the load. This improves the potential to carry heavy loads, as the hips are stronger

than the shoulders, and also increases agility and balance, since the load rides nearer the wearer’s

own center of mass.

The methods used to create handbags will vary between different brands, but the

process of manufacturing bag usually start from creating the body of the bag. If the bag is high

quality and hand-made, the manufacturer will choose a piece of leather, which is consistent in

16

color and use it to cut out five basics section of the bag, the front, the back, the side and the

bottom. To cut out the parts and to ensure that all handbags have the same size, the artisan will

use special pattern. The sections are stitched together by hand starting from sewing the front,

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
back, side and to the bottom and then will start stitching the parts together. If the lining is

stitched to the interior bag it is often sewn together with sides and bottom. If the material used to

create the bag has pattern on it, the high quality manufactured will cut each of the section in such

a way, which allows to match the pattern to the seams. This part creating a bag can take a few

hours or even a whole day of work, depending on how complicated the pattern are or how much

hand stitching is required. For example, it has the design that is cross stitch needle.

The process of manufacturing a machine made bag is usually much quicker and much

sloppier. The pattern does not much on the seams. The color of the leather or faux leather might

not be consist throughout the bag. The stitching can be even or more sloppy, with occasional

hanging and loose threads.

On attaching the straps and embellishments, the straps or handbag can be made from a

different materials and can be removable or not. For example, evening bags often have chain

straps while laptop cases and totes most often have straps made of the same leather which was

use to create the body of the bag. If the straps is made of metal chain, the chain can usually

attached to a metal ring. If the straps is made of leather, the manufactured usually cut two

identical, long pieces, which are folded over one another.

17

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
The leather straps can be stitch to the sides of the handbag or it can be attached with the

metal ring. Handmade bag usually have very durable straps made of leather or durable metal, but

low quality bags can have straps made of fabrics or plastic, which can be consider as non-

lifetime bag as leather or metal bag. The last part of the handbag making process involves

attaching all sort of embellishments such as pattern, beads, clasps, etc. If the bag is handmade,

these part are usually sewn into the bag, but if the bag is machine made, they might be glued into

bags and be less durable.

The entire backpack manufacturing process is extremely interesting and features five

steps to completion. After the paper cutouts are laid out, the next step is cutting the material.

Giant bolts of fabric are unrolled and measured to be used in molds. All of the fabric pieces are

cut separately and then brought together through stitching. The front pocket is sewn on and the

zippers are added at this stage. These pieces are set aside so the straps can be sewn together. The

buckles and latches are attached to the straps once they are complete.

The exterior of the backpack is then sewn all together as the straps are added to the bag.

At this stage the back is almost completely ready for use. Now all that needs to be done is

detailing. Excess thread is snipped and any snags in the stitches are evened out. Of course,

there’s one more step in getting your custom designed backpacks. This involves branding the bag

with your design or logo through screen-printing, heat transfer, or embroidery. (Quality

Logo,2017)

In securing the bags, it must check the sewing quality and conformity. But first let us talk

about

18

the product quality, according to Sampson (2019), Regardless of what industry that the business

in, customers are not going to choose the product by just based on price, but mostly on the

quality itself. In fact, studies have shown that customers will pay more for a product or service

that they think is made well or exceeds the standard and quality of products help to maintain

customer satisfaction and loyalty. And at the same time quality of product makes it more

profitable for a business itself.

In today’s generation, people are carefully selecting products and look first at the

quality before they patronized it so that they will know if the products are worth the money being

paid so clearly the quality has something to do with the importance of securing a products, in

marketing a products that are being manufactured it is necessary to verify first their quality by

conducting audits of the manufacturers and meticulously inspecting the products so if the

product is inline to industrial sewing machine it is important to have a bit of regular maintenance

in the sewing machine in order to help or to prevent some of the sewing machine problems and

for the materials make sure that materials are thick, heavy and durable especially for the fabric

and lastly the key to creating something strong or to secure bags is to identify the weak points

and strengthen the seams from both inside and outside to keep from busting a seam.

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
Securing bag can prevent this psychological effect to the students such as sadness,

hopelessness, and other anti social behaviors.

Using ordinary type of bag is quiet challenging for the students as it has a huge

19

possibilities that their valuable stuff and expensive things might lose. Stealing of valuable stuff is

usually always a surprise, and all its consequences cannot v prepared for. In addition, to physical

and economic consequences, the victim of stealing or theft often experiences psychological and

social consequences. According to Victim Support Finland (2017), reacting to a crime is normal.

The person's own history, life situation, energy resources and method of dealing with the events

influence the reaction. Strong emotions are also brought on by the idea of what could have

happened. For some people, an experience of crime may cause slight harms, for others it can v a

very tragic experience that leads to a traumatic crises. Feeling of insecurity, fear and anxiety are

common. A person suddenly end up in a situation they did not believe would happen to them. An

experience of crime may feel unreal and like a nightmare. Anxiety takes over an unnecessary

amount of the mind, cause pain and the sense of worthlessness. Guilt and shame are intertwined.

Moreover, the victim of crime may suffer from depression , eating disorders or self-destructive

behavior. Suicidal thoughts and attempts nay be possible, in the same way as the use of alcohol

and/or drugs. The thought of the pain easing over time does not always bring comfort, because

after a traumatic experience the person may not always have the ability to shape the future. The

victim may feel powerless and isolated, in which case normal, everyday discussions are not of

any interest. Emotions of anger, aggression, depression and anguish may vary and resentment or

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

revenge nay poison the mind. Due to traumatic experience, the victim's ability to think and act

rationally may weaken, in which case understanding any information provided may prove more

difficult. Procedures may he forgotten or they are remembered wrong.

Thus, a victim of theft and stealing may possibly experience many different kinds of

20

physical and psychological effects. For instance, those students who are victim of theft nay

experience psychological effects such as anger, depression or fear, which in serious cases, can

cause sleeplessness, flashbacks to the offense or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),

feelings of anxiety through shock that such a thing has happened and worries about

revictimisation , sometimes leading to feelings of loss of trust in one's community and in society.

Securing bag can avoid stealing

Bag is often use by the students to bring some sensitive and expensive stuff like laptop,

iPad, cellphones and wallets when going to school. However, stealing of valuable and expensive

stuff is already common especially in school. According to the study, theft is one of the most

prevalent crimes reported in every school campus around the world, specifically for those

campuses who holds larger number of students.

According to Writer (2017), a disturbance in large crowd is oftentimes a way for

thieves to bump into targets to steal valuables. It can only take a second or two to steal your

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
wallet from your pocket, a handbag, or a backpack. To eliminate the opportunity from becoming

a victim, both men and women need to be smart about the approach of strangers. When a

disturbance or disagreement breaks out, hold onto your valuables, handbag, and wallet until the

disturbance is completely over and you are away from the crowd. The same thing goes for if you

are watching a performances or street performers, enjoy the show, but know when and how are

you going to secure and protect your valuables first.

21

Furthermore, some researchers from different countries conducted a study on how

students can avoid having their belongings stolen. According to Chesley (2019), we have saying

around here: “lock it or lose it”. Do not leave valuables unattended or unsecured at any time,

even if you are going to be gone for only a few minutes. To avoid becoming a victim, always

remember that theft is a crime of opportunity. Some specific suggestions include purchasing a

laptop cable lick and securing the laptop to something fixed, like a table or desk leg. In addition,

according to Peek (2017), a lockable securing box or bag that integrally affixes to an object

where it is derivable to protect your valuables on a larger moveable object.

Thus, in order for the students to avoid theft, and protect his or her valuables, students

need to be alert to their surroundings especially when going to a crowded place. Students need to

protect their valuables so that thieves can’t access them when they do target the students.

Secured bag can lessen students’ worries

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
Worries make our life so weary. Worry walks with us and worn us out, But still we

prefer to carry the load not actually realizing its burden. There is sure to be a time when we

realize the burden getting off our shoulders affecting both the physical and mental health. There

are many negative side effects of worrying that can cause problems in both our mental and

physical health that may. One of these is sleeping disorder like insomnia and will this can also

affect our school life, not having enough sleep at night will result in not paying attention in class

because you’re sleepy and in turn you will have low grades. This will also give you a heightened

cortisol response

22

that leads to high blood pressure and rapid weight gained. Lowered immune system reaction

leaving you vulnerable to many illnesses.

Worry and perseverative thought are trans diagnostic processes that have been linked to

negative health effects. Worrying will also give you headache and difficulty in making decisions

that will lead you into an unwanted situations that may or may not benefit you. The anti-thief bag

will lessen student’s worries about thievery in their belonging inside their bags and can focus in

studying that will give them higher grades and many achievements. Anti-thief bag also give

students confidence because of its unique and wonderful design that is popular in today’s time

enabling students to be more bold and daring. This allows students to seize every opportunity

that comes in their way.

Advantage of a security system in the market

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
Anti-thief bag is an excellent product that will not only satisfy the consumers with its

design but also help them protect their belongings. The product should always be excellent in

any way so the students will see that the product benefits them. When making a purchase,

customers values the products benefit higher than its function as they don’t want any product that

don’t give any benefits. It is believed that, it is not to be satisfied and delighted as they must

perceived that the product is excellent (Larforce et al, 1995). Customer always purchases a

product that can actually give them benefits that are equal or higher than the cost of the product.

23

According to Page (1995) product is anything offering to consumer which either solve

problem or provide benefit including any "add-ons" e.g. guarantees. In many cases, product will

be the most important element in the marketing mix; it lies at the care of successful marketing.

The anti-thief bag solves the problem of many people about the thievery of their belongings and

bags with its security system of GPS that can locate the bag in case it was stolen or forgotten.

Finger print lock can assure you that only you and no other person can open that bag. These will

also help the consumers in preventing thievery from happening that may cause a trauma to the

victim of the crime and help lessen their worries ensuring a good and positive mental health. The

security system gives students confidence that their belongings will be safe and enables them to

concentrate to their study and schoolwork allowing them to have greater achievements in school.

THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK

As a normative moral theory of Aristotle as cited by ( Dimmock , 2017 ) Aristotelian

Virtue Ethics states that, the virtue ethicist is not interested in the moral status of individual

actions, but rather is interested in the character traits and disposition of the person performing

those actions. Using to reason to work out the virtues Golden Mean in the different spheres of

life, Aristotle suggested the following as virtuous and non-virtuous character traits. Thus, those

who engage in the act of stealing on the basis of righteousness, courage and virtuous patience

maybe considered moral, whereas those who engage in the act of stealing on the basis of

rashness, shamefulness and irascibility will not be considered moral. This reveals something

interesting about the application

24

of virtue ethics to stealing. According to virtue ethics, the very same act performed by two

different people can be viewed differently from a moral perspective. This theory implies that we

should not judge the thieves without knowing the reason behind why he/she performed that

particular action. However, there are a lot of people will contradict or against with this

perspective, especially here in the Philippines because peoples mindset here in the Philippines is,

if someone steal other property without permission whether it’s basis is good not is still

considered as a crime.

CHAPTER IV

Discussion

This study chapter discusses the level of awareness of Grade 12 Senior High School

Students of STI College Cotabato on the ordinary bag.

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
Based on the results, the researchers identified seven (7) major findings. 1.) Students

are often aware that securing bag can be reliable to put high value product inside the bag, 2.)

Students are often aware that securing bag by its high quality will not make the students buy

another one in case of damage, 3.) Students are often aware that ordinary bag It's not safe to use

when traveling due to its lack of security feature, 4.) Students are often aware that ordinary bag

is not suitable to use when it is raining since it is not waterproof, 5.) Securing bag is the major

solution to avoid being a victim of thieves, 6.) Majority of the students have already experienced

being victim of thieves, lastly, 7.) Majority of the students preferred to use backpack.

37

Students are often aware that securing bag can be reliable to put high value product inside

the bag

The first major finding of the study is that students are often aware that securing bag

can be reliable to put high value product inside the bag. The major problem of not securing bag

is to loss some necessary important items inside the bag especially when travelling. According to

Rob (2019), securing the bag makes and teach to learn how to develop a powerful money

mindset along with time tested strategies that will help to take fully control of financial life. If

not intentionally to get and became wealthy, it will result end up accidentally poor. Losing

important items like jewelry inside at bag is one of the annoying moment that every people learn

from it, thus it likely to be careful and better luck next time when putting such a precious item at

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

bag. In the result, having a comfortable bag will help to make the trip more enjoyable and

moving around easier. Securing bag makes everyone feel comfortable in putting their expensive

stuff like laptop, mobile phone, and important papers inside their bag.

Students are often aware that securing bag by Its high quality will not make the students

buy another one in case of damage

The second major findings of study is that students are often aware that the quality of

the product plays an important role for it to be secure and long lasting. Since most of the

ordinary bags tend to be machine made for faster production it is usually sloppier, pattern does

not much on the seams, The color of the leather or faux leather might not be consist throughout

the bag, The stitching can be even or more sloppy, with occasional hanging and loose threads,

The last part of the handbag making process involves attaching all sort of designs such as

pattern, beads, clasps,

38

etc. If the bag is handmade, these part are usually sewn into the bag, but if the bag is machine

made, they might be glued into bags and be less durable. According to Sampson (2019),

Regardless of what industry that the business in, customers are not going to choose the product

by just based on price, but mostly on the quality itself. In fact, studies have shown that customers

will pay more for a product or service that they think is made well or exceeds the standard and

quality of products help to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty. Costumers make sure that

they buy a worth it and long lasting bag, they don’t mind the price. Even it is expensive the

quality, design, and the fabric is high quality. We make sure that we reach the expected

satisfaction of the buyers.

Students are often aware that ordinary bag is not safe to use when traveling due to its lack

of security feature

The third major findings of the study is that students are often aware that ordinary bag

is not safe to use when traveling due to its lack of security feature. According to American

Automobile Association ( 2020) traveling can be a memorable and eye-opening in experience,

birthday experience can quickly take a bad turn if you're belongings are stolen along the way.

Using ordinary type of bag may lead the travelers to lost their personal bag, cash, expensive

gadgets and important papers can be stressful, scare and unsettling situation. However, travelers

can prevent theft during their travels by being a mindful and informed travelers and by securing

their belongings at all times. Therefore, travelers must research their destination ahead of time ,

purchase locks and secure their bags so that travelers can avoid being victim of theft.

39

Students are often aware that ordinary bag is not suitable to use when it is raining since it

is not waterproof

The fourth major findings of the study is that students are often aware that ordinary

bag is not suitable to use when it is raining since it is not waterproof. Another crucial thing that

concerns the capacity of the bag is that not every part of the backpack is waterproof, and

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
everyone should be careful what stuff they put and where they place them inside the bag.

Typically, additional pockets and compartments of the ordinary bag are not waterproofed.

Therefore, ordinary bag is not convenient and reliable to use during heavy rainy days because the

stuff inside the bag will go soaking wet. Ordinary bag will now allows everyone to bring some

sensitive stuff like laptop, mobile phone, tablet or any other kind of technology. According to

Taylor (2020), the durability of a bag is a big factor in every hike, their build should withstand

the unpredictable weather conditions in the journey.

Securing bag is the major solution to avoid being a victim of stealing

The fifth major findings of the study is that securing bag is the major solution to avoid

being a victim of stealing. It clearly shows that securing bag by its high quality and security

feature will protect one's personal belongings. According to Peek (2017) securing bag is to

protect your valuable things to a larger object such as bag to avoid stealing. In addition, The

quality of the bag plays huge role in protecting one's personal belongings. According to Sampson

(2019) regardless of what industry that the business in, customers are not going to choose the

product by just based on price, but mostly on the quality itself. Thus, In order to protect students

important papers and valuable stuff students must be more responsible in securing their bad.

40

Majority of the students have experienced being victim of thieves

The sixth major finding of the study is that majority of the Grade 12 Senior High

School students of STI College Cotabato have already experienced being victim of thieves. Upon

conducting the survey, the researchers found out that out of 267 respondents that belonged to the

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
Academic Track of ABM, GAS, HUMSS, STEM, and Technical Vocational Livelihood Track of

CUART, MAWD, AND TOPER, there are 205 students who already experienced being victim

of thieves and lost something valuable inside their bag. On the other hand, there are only 62

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato have not yet experience being victim of

thieves. Therefore, students must be more conscious and more responsible in terms of their

personal belongings and also students should be aware on the importance of securing their bag

and on the the possible challenges they might encounter or experience if they use ordinary type

of bag, for them to avoid losing their personal belongings.

Majority of the students preferred to use backpack

The last major findings of the study is that majority of the Grade 12 Senior High

School students of STI College Cotabato preferred to use backpack than other type of bag. Upon

conducting the survey, the researchers found out that among the four (4) types of bag, majority

of the Grade 12 Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato chose backpack with the

total frequency of 179, followed by the sling bag with the total frequency of 75, followed by the

hand bag with the total frequency of 9, and least preferred type of bag was the string bag with the

total frequency of 4.

41

Limitation of the study

The researchers study only focused on the awareness of grade 12 Senior High School

Students of STI College Cotabato on ordinary bag. The researchers provided only and limited the

Anti-Theft Bag with Fingerprint and GPS: Level of Awareness of Grade 12

Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato on Existing Ordinary Bag
questions into two columns; securing ordinary bag and challenges on ordinary bag. In securing

ordinary bag, the researchers mentioned only six statements. While, in the challenges of ordinary

bag, the researchers mentioned only 5 statements and there are still more statements that are not

mentioned or covered in the study. The respondents of the study are the only grade 12 Senior

High School students of STI College Cotabato that belonged to the strand of STEM, HUMSS,

ABM, GAS, TOPER, CUART, and MAWD that are officially enrolled for the school year 2020-

2021.

Implication

Based on the result, knowing the purpose of securing bag and challenges of an ordinary

bag will help the grade 12 Senior High School students of STI College Cotabato to avoid being a

victim of stealing. Respondents of the study are often aware on the purpose of securing bag .

However, it is not enough to protect one's personal belongings specially when going to a place

that has a huge case of robbery and thievery. With the use of the researchers product, the anti

theft bag with fingerprint and GPS will help everyone to protect their personal belongings since

it is built-in different security feature.
