FIELD STUDY 1
in a Diverse Classroom
The diversity of the students in the classroom has always served as evidence of their individuality.
Diversity in the classroom includes a wide range of skills, needs, and knowledge in addition to ethnic
diversity. No matter how diverse your students are, it is your duty as a teacher to create a supportive
learning environment. As I observed the Grade 7 students handled by Ms. Abbygail by the time I
visited, I noticed the different approaches of interaction by the students to everyone in the classroom.
As I observed, there is a boundary between the teacher and student in a very nice way, because the
students knew that they should use polite words when interacting with their teacher for the main reason
that their attainment in life are far enough. On the other hand, the students interact with their classmates
in a very comfortable manner, very ease and with no hesitations. There are students or group of students
who interact mostly with their teacher. An ingenious way to link the students' prior knowledge to the
topic at hand was the teacher asking them about their previous topic after verifying attendance before
the discussion began. The instructor thoroughly explains each stage of the scientific approach during the
conversation. To help the students formulate thoughts and apply what they had learned in practical
settings, the instructor provided examples of the processes in action along with relevant images. During
the remaining portion of the teacher's discussion, the students took the initiative to present their work in
groups, giving each other a chance to talk about their particular role. The teacher poses a question to
group one while they continue their presentation, and they competently answer by applying the
scientific process they were taught in the prior class. In conclusion, the teacher skillfully handled the
variety of students in the online classroom

Read the following carefully before you begin to observe a class. Write your observation report on the space
provided.
1. How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact with one another
and with the teacher. Are there groups that interact more with the teacher than others?
Classroom interaction can vary based on factors such as class size, teaching methods, and the
nature of the subject. In some classrooms, students engage in active discussions, group
activities, and collaborative projects, fostering a dynamic interaction. In a classroom setup,
since the section I observed is a lower section, just few students were interacting with teacher.
Based on my observation, the students who were sitting infront were mostly reciting unlike
those students sitting at the back were not paying attention and they were just talking with their
classmates than to cooperate with their class discussion and activities
2.Observe the learner’s behavior during the conduct of the class. How do they behave and interact
differently?
In contrast to the students at the front, the ones seated in the back were quiet talkative.
They often talk too much rather than collaborate on their class assignment with their
seatmates. While those in the front row behave well and participating in class they are
always reciting during discussion

3. Describe the relationship among the learners. Do the learners cooperate with or compete against each
other?
The learners had different groups when it comes to interaction, some are
participating and collaborating with their classmates when they have performance
task. They have their unity in class discussion. Most of the learners have
cooperation.
4. Who among the students participated actively? Who among them asked most for help?
The students occupying the front seats are the ones who actively participate in class.
While the majority of students who seek help most of the time are the students sitting at
the back or just beyond the corner

5. When a learner is called and cannot answer the teacher’s question, do the classmates try to help him?
Or do they raise hand, so that the teacher will call them instead?
Yes, If the student is unable to respond to the question, the other students are raising their
hands to emphasize the question that still needs to be answered.
Analyze
Identify the person who play the key roles in the relationships and interactions in a virtual
classroom. What roles do they play? Is there somebody who appears to be the leader, a
mascot/joker, an attention seeker, a little teacher, a doubter/ pessimist?
The instructor and the students, of course, are the two principal players in the classroom. In the capacity of a
facilitator, the teacher helps and supports students while they complete their perspective works. There are many
jokers in the class who usually keep things light and balanced when things get too serious. They also usually crack
jokes to lighten the mood. Some students take on the role of class leader, facilitating and controlling the level of
noise and regulating their peers when the teacher is not present. There are also some teachers in the class who help
their classmates when they don't understand the lesson; these students are very compassionate and have the heart to
help others; there are also doubters or pessimists in the class who quit working on an activity when they find it too
difficult or hard
How does the teacher influence the class interaction considering the individual differences of
the students in a classroom?
By avoiding prejudice, the teacher has a significant impact on each student's unique differences.
To make the students feel that they are all the same in their teacher's eyes, the teacher should
treat each student equally.

Reflect
1. How did you feel as you observed in the classroom? Did you feel a sense of oneness
or unity among the learners, and between the teacher and the learners?
I instantly feel like a teacher when I'm in the classroom. The students' enthusiasm to
put in a lot of effort in order to study a certain topic makes me feel as though we are all
one big family. Additionally, the harmony between the instructor and the students is
important since harmony denotes uniformity, and the class I saw had this quality
2. In the future, how would you want the learners in your classroom to interact? How
will you, make it happen?
In the future, I want my students to interact with each other so that they don't
experience any stress or feel any tension at all. I want kids to be able to freely
express their emotions while still making sure that they don't upset their
classmates. I'll accomplish this by giving them a briefing, explaining the value of
harmony in the classroom, and helping them understand that practicing this kind of
interaction will be beneficial to all of us.

At the end of this activity, the FS student must be able to achieve the following intended learning outcomes:
a) differentiate the characteristics and needs of learners from different development levels; and
b) choose effective strategies to address the diverse needs of the learners according to their developmental levels.
LEARNING OVERVIEW:
Activity3- PPST Domain 3: Diversity of Learners provides the opportunity to observe learners of different ages and grade
levels virtually. It highlights the differences in their characteristics and needs. As a future educator, it is important to determine
learners’ characteristics and needs so that you will be able the implement learning activities and assessment that are all
developmentally appropriate.

Read the following carefully before you begin with this then write your observation report on the space provided.
1. Record the data you gathered about the learners’ characteristics and needs in this matrix.
2. Shadow a learner from preschool, elementary and high school during the conduct of their class.
3. This will allow you to compare the characteristics and needs of learners at different levels. The items under
each domain are by no means exhaustive. These are sample indicators you may add other aspects which
you may have observed.
Directions: Complete the table below. Indicate opposite each learning principle the part of the lesson where it/they are
employed/utilized.

Gross-motor skills Gross motor skills are an
important aspect of physical
development, even in high
school. During this stage,
teenagers continue to refine and
improve their gross motor skills
through various activities and
sports. For example, high school
offers a wide range of sports
activities such as basketball,
soccer, volleyball, track and
field, and more.

Reflect 5
1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your experiences when you were at their age? What
similarities or differences do you have with the learners you observed?
As I step my foot inside the classroom, thousands of memories have hit me. Throughout the entire
observation, I can't deny the fact that I've learned beyond what I can imagine. I still remember when I
was also at their age I talked a lot and I'm hyped every time our teacher is boosting us up with her
motivational lessons. All of the learners are respectful and cheerful, and I think the differences among
learners is on how they act inside the classroom. Some of the students are participative while other
learners are quiet and just minding their own business.
2. Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive or negative reasons. How did she/he or not help you with your
needs (physical, emotional, social, and cognitive)? How did it affect you?
Failure is just an attempt in learning. This phrase was being imprinted in my mind because of this
one Teacher whom I adore genuinely. I love how she changed my whole perspective in life, and
help us, not just me but our whole batch to enhanced our Personal growth and Development
I do realize that being a teacher is like a role model. You don't have to be the best teacher to your students,
you don't have to be skilled to fit in their standards and you don't have to be strict in order to discipline your
students. What you have to do is show them who you are and always remind your students that you're not just
a teacher to them but they can also treat you as their family. And always remember that it will reflect on how
you handle your students based on their behavior. And as an aspiring teacher I should be genuine in all aspects
and to the things that I'm doing.
