Lesson
Constructing a Project
1 Plan
How do you find the first activity? Are you familiar with how to
construct a project plan? Construction of a project plan is a skill that you
should know.

What’s In
In your previous lessons, you learned about some examples of
materials used in decorating bamboo, wood and metal products, and the
importance of enhancing products through sketching, shading, and
outlining. These will help you come up with a new project.

Now, try to write at least two projects that you can do using these
discarded materials. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.

3. plastic bottles __________________________

What’s New
In this module, you will learn how to construct a project plan, know
the policies on planning a project, safety precautions and prepare a project
plan for finished products.

Every business confronts problems and takes steps to address them.

The solution to some problems requires only a single person with a limited
budget. The structure of project plans varies across industries to

3
accommodate specific needs, but all project plans contain several essential
parts.

Parts of a Project Plan

1. Scope Statement- It presents a general overview about the parameters

of the problem, justification of the project and objectives.
2. Objectives – The objection portion of the plan sets out the specific
goals and any deliverables of the project.
3. Resources – Includes materials, financial and human resources.
4. Risks – The risks sections should note any factors that might hinder
or detail the project to allow for risk management.
5. Schedules – Minimally, the project plan must include a project
schedule that specifies milestones and an estimation of project
duration.
6. Evaluation – This can include a basic checklist such as meeting the
project schedule, staying under budget and filing progress reports.
The evaluation section sets out the criteria for determining project
success.

Directions: Find the word being described in the word puzzle below. Write
your answer on a separate sheet of paper.

1. The specific steps to finish the project smoothly.

2. Deadline/time frame when to finish your project.
3. List of expenses and things needed for your project.
4. The proper materials that will be needed in the project.
5. The ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties.

What Is It

In constructing a project plan there are policies to be considered. These

are as follows:
1. Consider the benefits that you will get out of it.
2. Study the feasibility and use of a project.
a. Is it used for oneself alone?
b. Is it used at home?
c. Is it used in school?
3. Itemize the steps to do.
4. Identify the materials needed.
5. Prepare the tools and equipment needed.
6. Be sure that you are well-versed and skillful in using the tools and
equipment to avoid accidents.
7. Consider the feasibility of the project’s design.

It is also important to know the necessary precautions in order to have a

successful project-making. In planning your project for finished products
you must know how to be resourceful in using time, materials, money, and
effort. Consider the drawing of the product to be enhanced as a guide. Then
evaluate your finished product.
Safety Precautions – Staying healthy and safe at work is important. No
matter what your job, it is important to reduce your risks of injury and
illness at work.
Here are some tips to help make your workplace safe.
1. Understand the risks. Once you know the particular hazards of your
job workplace, you can take steps to reduce your risks of work-related
injury or illness.
2. Reduce workplace stress. Common causes include long hours, heavy
workload, job insecurity and conflicts with coworkers or bosses.
3. Take regular breaks. Staying fresh and alert will help you avoid injury
or burnout.
4. Avoid stooping or twisting. Rearrange your work area so that
everything you need is within easy reach.
5. Use mechanical aids whenever possible. Instead of trying to lift or
carry a heavy object, use a wheelbarrow.
6. Protect your back. If you do need to pick up and carry heavy loads,
keep the load close to your body and lift with your thigh muscles.

5
7. Wear protective equipment. If worn correctly, gear such as earplugs,
earmuffs, hard hat, safety goggles, gloves or full-face mask can
dramatically reduce your risk of injury.

8. Stay sober. Alcohol and drugs are a contributing factor in around

three percent of workplace fatalities.
9. Talk over any concerns. Your employer or human resources manager
need to be informed about hazards and risks.
10. Know your rights. Organizations such as Work Safe Victoria or
unions can offer information and advice on workplace safety issues.
Here is an example of a project plan.
