III. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new Nowadays, fake news spread fast and some people tend to instantly
lesson believe what they see, hear or read from the social media. Therefore, it is
important that we become inquisitive about the reliability of the details of the
text and its source. Finding evidences to support opinions and information is
useful both for the source and its audience.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Direction: Put a √ if the sentence is supported with evidence and X if the
sentence is not supported with evidence.
1. Wild animals should be protected.
2. It’s been proven that diversity in wildlife helps maintain a healthy ecosystem.
3. Video games help kids learn.
4. Some studies have shown that certain types of game can help kids learn
problem-solving skills.
5. Not all junk foods are bad.
C. Presenting Examples/ instances of the new lesson Today we are going to talk about how to provide evidence to support a fact.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills Opinions that are spoken or written that are not supported by facts hold
#1 very little value to the audience. In giving opinions, let’s make sure that we are
able to provide evidences.
To insure that we are properly armed with facts, always conduct research
on what we write and talk about.
Today, let us talk about Providing Evidence to Support Opinion.
Opinion is a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily
based on fact or knowledge. But it is better to use evidence to persuade your
audience or readers to accept your information. Without evidence, the
information is merely unsubstantiated idea or opinion.
Evidence is the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief
or proposition is true or valid.
Example 1: The Earth is around 4.6 billion years old according to scientist.
 The statement was true and stated with evidence that the earth is around 4.6
billion according to scientist.
Example 2: The Philippine national bird is called “Philippine eagle”.
 The information was made official in 1978 by former President Ferdinand
Marcos through Proclamation No. 1732.

1|Page
Example 3: The Philippines was the first country in Southeast Asia to gain
independence after World War II, in 1945.
 The evidence was stated by Jill Bartholomew, Junior Writer so, the information
is said to be true.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills Since providing evidence is essential to support one’s opinion, let us learn
#2 about the types of evidence. to enhance our knowledge about it.
1. Logical Evidence - It is based on facts and clear reasoning.
 Example: The most prominent symptoms of coronaviruses are respiratory
symptoms.
 Alongside it is breathing difficulties, cough, fever, and shortness of breath.
However, severe cases could eventually lead to pneumonia, kidney failure,
severe acute respiratory syndrome, and worst, death.
2. Empirical Evidence - It is based on experiences and direct observation
through research.
 Example: The sun will set late in the afternoon.
 We know that the sun will set because we have seen it set everyday unless it
will rain.
3. Anecdotal Evidence - It is based on personal accounts of incidents or stories.
 Example: During the first week of lockdown, I heard a group of students was
arrested for drinking liquor in the street.
 They disobeyed the policy that is why they were arrested by the soldier in
duty.

Precisely, it is really necessary to become conscious enough about the opinion

we are sharing and it must be based with evidence.
F. Developing Mastery Let’s have some exercises. Read the article, then support the opinion with
evidences cited in the text.
