Concept Notes:
The word Internet comes from the two words inter and net.
Inter means “between” or “among” while net means “network”. If we put
them together, it will mean “between networks” or “among networks”. We can,
therefore, define Internet as interconnection of networks.
Here are some of things we can do with the Internet:
1. Learn online.
2. Watch videos or movies.
3. Listen to music.
4. Look for pictures.
5. Play online games.
6. Visit virtual worlds.
7. Stay touch with friends.

Concept Notes:
The Internet browser or web browser is a program that is used se we can
access the Internet and visit the different websites.
Mosaic is the very first graphical browser.
Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari are the commonly
used web browsers today.

We follow the steps below in using the browser:
1. Look for the browser icon from any of the following options:
a. Desktop b. Taskbar c. Start Menu
2. Click the icon
The basic parts of the browser windows are as follows:

1. The Title bar contains the tabs for the websites that we are visiting. Each tab
displays the website’s name and logo.
2. The Navigation buttons let us to navigate through the web pages.

3. In the Address bar, we type the address of the website or the web page we
want to visit.

4. The web page is the main are of the browser window. It shows the content of
the current page that we are visiting.

Concept Notes:
A Search Engine is a program in the internet that is used to find for
anything that we want to look for it. It will give us search results that contain the
keyword we use.
Here are some of the recommended safe search engines that we can use:

Activity title: Going Online Safely

Concept Notes:
When we go online, we should follow safety rules like when we are going to
a particular place in the real world. This helps us to stay safe and arrive
unharmed to our destination.
These are the three (3) simple rules to follow for going online safely;
1. Always ask permission first from our parents or an adult when going
online.
When we leave home to go outside to play with our friends, we need to ask
permission form our parents first. The same is true before we go online. We ask
our parents or any adult if we will be allowed to use the Internet.
2. Interact only with the people we know.
We do not talk to the people we do not know, right? When using the
Internet, we only talk to the people we know, like in the real world. Let us avoid
any kind of interaction with strangers on the Internet.
3. Go to websites that are appropriate for us.
Let us remember using safe search engines for safe web browsing. We
should also visit websites that are safe and appropriate for us.
Exercise:
Write CORRECT if Clare follows a safety rule for going online safely and

When we go online, we will observe that there are many websites
nowadays that ask for our private information.
The following are the private information that we should never give out to people
we do not know:

Here are some of the ways to keep our privacy when online:
