Range 43 PLT LFX

PLT LFX Prerequisites

PLT LFX Prerequisites

Maneuver Units:
• All Squads have participated in a Squad LFX within the last six months
• SL and above in CoC the same since the last LFX
• All firing personnel have zeroed and qualified (day and night) with assigned
weapons prior to conducting collective live fires.
• All indirect weapon systems have been registered prior to participating in the LFX.
LFX Safety Standards
• Safety Briefing: The range safety brief will take place prior to the Platoon executing the Blank
Fire iteration. The Range Officer in Charge (OIC) and Range Safety Officer (RSO) will conduct the
brief. All personnel executing training that day will receive the brief.

• Training: Platoon Leaders will be issued an OPORD NLT the day prior to execution. Dry and Blank
rehearsals will take place prior to the LFX. If all tasks have been executed safely and to standard,
the until will download all blank rounds and blank firing adapters and prepare for the live fire
iteration. These same steps will be repeated for night fire iterations.

• OIC: The Range OIC is overall responsible for the live fire exercise and safety. The Range OIC will
place himself in the position that best allows him to command and control the LFX. Additionally
the OIC is responsible for the accountability of all sensitive items and Class V. The OIC must ensure
there is no loss of these items and all discrepancies are reported to Range Control and CoC.

• Range Safeties: Assigned safeties will maneuver with each Squad for both blank and live iterations.
The RSO will maneuver with the Platoon Leader. Safeties will be assigned and validated by the
Range OIC. Safeties will remain assigned to the range throughout the training. They will monitor
the safety NET, maintaining COMMS with the Range Safety Officer at all times. Emergency cease
fire signal will be established.
LFX Safety Standards

• The primary objective for the Safeties/RSO is to allow the Platoon Leader to have as
much control over the exercise as safety measures allow.

• RSO/Maneuver Safeties will be aware of SDZs and safety control measures. Example-
Left and Right Limits of Fire, Shift Fire and Cease Fire Phase Lines and LOA.

• A Squad Maneuver Safety will maneuver with each squad and control the assault
element as it bounds to the objective. They should locate and mark key location on
the ground to assist in keeping the assaulting element with in the Ranges established
SDZ’s.
• Safeties will ensure that muzzle awareness is maintained at all times and that the squad
only engages targets that are exposed and within their sector of fire. In the event that a
Soldier should maneuver in front of another Soldier the Safety will order a immediate
cease fire and corrective training will take place until the Squad has proven it can
maneuver safely.
LFX Safety Standards
• The RSO will maneuver with the Platoon Leader.

• The RSO will assist the safeties with the direction of movement to ensure the unit maintains
proper approach to the support by fire position and during fire and maneuver.

• The RSO will place himself in a position were he can observe the bounding Squad and ensure
that the cease fire signal/command is given well before the assault element attempts to cross
the Objective.

• A Safety hot wash will be conducted with all participating personnel immediately after each
Blank fire iteration to identify any safety issues. The Safeties and the RSO will meet with the
OIC to determine that the unit is proficient enough to advance to the live fire Iteration. The
range OIC will decide when to proceed to the live fire iteration.

• At the completion of each iteration the Safeties will observe the unit chain of command clear all
weapon systems before they will be allowed to return to the assembly area to down load ammo.

RG 43 PLT Live Fire COA Statement and Sketch INTENT

Purpose: The purpose of this operation is to prevent the enemy’s ability to mass
forces within the Disruption Zone

Key Tasks
- Mass and control fires on the objective allowing FOM for friendly forces
- Destroy enemy forces on OBJ DOG

End State: Enemy elements on OBJ Dog are destroyed and the PLT is postured to
conduct follow-on offensive operations.

TASKS TO MANEUVER UNITS

OBJ 1. DO – (ASLT Squad) attacks to clear OBJ DOG NLT (______AUG16 ) IOT to destroy

DOG ATK enemy forces defending AO

2. SO1 – (WPNs Squad) Attacks by fire IOT suppress enemy on OBJ DOG to allow
JOAN FOM of ME
3. SO2- (Breach Squad) Conducts breach ENY obstacles on OBJ DOG to secure a
passage for the ME.
4. S03 – (MTR Section) suppress ENY on OBJ DOG to allow undetected movement of
the DO and SO1.
5. SO4 – (Squad) One squad (SO4) will follow and support the DO to exploit the
success of the PLT

CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS:
The purpose of this operation is to prevent the enemy’s ability to mass forces within the Disruption Zone. Decisive to this operation is the destruction of squad sized elements within the disruption zone. This is decisive because it will
degrade the enemy’s ability to fight a coherent defense in the disruption zone. One squad (DO) will attack to destroy enemy forces on OBJ DOG. One squad (SO1) Attacks by fire IOT suppress enemy on OBJ DOG and allow FOM of
ME. One Squad (SO2) conducts breach of ENY obstacles on OBJ DOG to secure a passage for the ME. One mortar section (SO3) suppresses enemy on OBJ DOG to allow undetected movement of the DO and SO1. One squad (SO4) will
follow and support the DO to exploit the success of the PLT. At Endstate of this operation Enemy elements on OBJ DOG are destroyed and the PLT is postured to conduct follow-on offensive operations.
