COURSE:
Course Title: EDUC 11 – BUILDING AND ENHANCING NEW LITERACIES ACROSS CURRICULUM
No. of Units: 3

Course Description:

This course introduces the concepts of new literacies in the 21 st century as an evolving special phenomenon and shared cultural practices across learning areas.
The 21st century literacies shall include globalization and multi-cultural literacy, media literacy, financial literacy, cyber/digital literacy, eco-literacy, and arts and
creative literacy. Field-based interdisciplinary explorations and other teaching strategies shall be used in this course.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the students would be able to:


1. demonstrate content knowledge and pedagogy of the concepts of 21st Century Education, new literacies, functional literacy and multiliteracy
perspectives;
2. demonstrate the application of new literacies within and across teacher education curriculum;
3. apply teaching strategies that develop critical and creative thinking and/or higher order thinking skills;
4. show skills in the selection, development and use of variety of teaching and learning resources, including ICT to address learning goals; and
5. demonstrate knowledge of providing timely, accurate and constructive feedback to improve learner performance.
Number of Hours: 3 hours every week for 18 weeks or 54 hours in a semester

Grading System

There are two main components to consider in the computation: the CLASS STANDING and TERM EXAMINATIONS. Class standing has the following components:
tests/quizzes, project/report, portfolio to include reflections, module activities and attendance. Each of the components will be accorded weights in the
computation.

The Term Examination is a summative test / long test given on the last week of the six (6) weeks in a grading period: the Prelims, the Midterms and the Finals.
