Intellectual property
•defined by the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO), a
United Nations agency, as “creations of
the mind: inventions; literary and
artistic works; and symbols, names,
and images used in commerce.”

•Under the Intellectual Property Code
of the Philippines, also known as the
Republic Act No. 8293, copyright and
related rights are among the
intellectual property rights.
- It is divided into industrial property,
which includes patents for inventions
and trademarks,

- and copyright, which includes literary


works, films, music, and artistic works.
The Law on Copyright

Under the Law on Copyright,


creators of literary and
artistic works have the
following rights:
1. COPYRIGHT / ECONOMIC RIGHTS –
CREATERS CAN CARRY OUT, OR PREVENT
CERTAIN ACTS LIKE THE REPRODUCTION
OF THEIR WORKS.

2. MORAL RIGHTS – THE RIGHT TO


REQUIRE THAT THE AUTHORSHIP OF THE
WORKS BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE
CREATOR.
Factors Affecting the Law on Copyright

1.The purpose and nature of the use,


including whether it is commercial or
for nonprofit educational reasons
2.The size and significance of the
fraction used in relation to the entire
copyrighted work.
Notes-bibliography style
•widely used in the humanities and some
social sciences.
•In this style, one places a superscript
number at the end of a sentence in the
body text to indicate that he or she is
referring to a source for that piece of
information.

•The number corresponds to a note that


contains the details of the source
including the page number or numbers
from which the information was
gathered.

• The note can be placed either at the bottom of the


page—called a footnote—or at the end of the
paper—called an endnote.

•All the sources cited in the


paper as well as the ones
consulted by the writer
appear in the bibliography.
MLA FORMAT: (MLA) is commonly
used in disciplines such as English studies,
literary criticism, cultural studies, foreign
language and literatures, and comparative
literature.

Book. Publisher, Publication Year.
• APA FORMAT: (APA) style is most often used for
citing sources in the social sciences. This style is
commonly prescribed by teachers in the
Philippines for high school students doing
research.

optional) (URL/link)

1. IN-TEXT CITATIONS OF SOURCES CAN


BE FOUND IN IN THE BODY OF THE
REPORT PAPER.

2. REFERENCE LIST OF WORKS SUCH AS


BOOKS, MAGAZINES, AND ARTICLES THAT
ARE USES AS REFERENCES FOR A PAPER.

INVENTIONS, LITERARY WORKS.

• INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY – PATENT (A patent is a legal document that


gives the holder exclusive rights to an invention, product, or process
for a set period of time.) FOR TRADEMARKS AND INVENTIONS.

• INTELECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS – LEGAL OWNERSHIP.
