CLASS ACT
Jordan Banks, a young African American boy, is a student at the
Riverdale Academy Day School, which his mother calls "one of the
best schools in the state". He has two big friends there, Drew and
Liam, but he is feeling nervous about going to the 8th grade. He has
a dream to go to art school and become an artist, but his mother
wants him to stay at RAD.
Drew Ellis is, just like Jordan, one of the few kids of colour at RAD,
and he is bullied because of his skin colour. His grandmother is
always telling him “You have to work twice as hard to be just as
good.” But what if he works ten times as hard and still doesn’t have
the same opportunities his privileged classmates do? When Drew is
invited to Liam's house for the day, he finds out how rich his friend really is, and that makes him
sad. It’s true that Liam is very rich, but he doesn't have Jordan's family or Drew's grandmother.
Jordan tries to keep the group together; he knows how important friendship is.
