Modern Sewage Treatment

WHAT IS SEWAGE
SYSTEM ? 2
WHAT IS SEWAGE SYSTEM ?

• Sewage treatment is a type of wastewater treatment

• Remove contaminants from sewage to produce an effluent

• Effluent shall be either reused or Discharge in Environment

Sewage – Untreated waste water

Effluent – Treated Water

3
Types of Sewage System
Domestic

o carry Domestic Waste water from a city , village or town.

Industrial

o Carry Industrial Waste water from industry with undesirable

contaminants.

Storm Water

o Carry storm water (untreated) to water bodies.

Some of the types of Sewage Treatment Plant

• Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR)

• Membrane bioreactor (MBR)

• Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR)

(SBR) SBR
Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR)

There are five stages in the treatment process

• Fill
• React
• Settle
• Decant

8
Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR)

1. The inlet valve is opened and the tank is filled, while mixing is
provided by mechanical means, but no air is added yet.

2. Aeration of the mixed liquor is performed by the use of fixed or

floating mechanical pumps or by transferring air into fine bubble
diffusers fixed to the floor of the tank

3. No aeration or mixing is provided in the third stage and the settling

of suspended solids starts.

4. the outlet valve opens and the "clean" supernatant liquor exits the
tank

Membrane
bioreactor
(MBR)
Membrane bioreactor (MBR)

1. The Large Solid Objects are Removed by Bar screen

2. Oil and Grease are Skimmed out from the Sewage water in the
Second Chamber

3. The Screened water is Sent to The Aeration Tank . For Degradation

of Organic Pollutants .

4. Bod and Cod Are Provided with air supply arrangement

12
Membrane bioreactor (MBR)

1. In The Membrane tank The Solid Liquid separation takes places by

the means of the vacuum pumps

2. Though pump treated effluent is filled in Black Pulse Tank . Here

the disinfection and dosing is done

3. Hypochlorite solution is pumped in the tank .Finally Treated water

is pumped to Treated water Tank

13
Membrane bioreactor (MBR)

1. The Excess Sludge is drained

to sludge holding tank

2. Then it was transferred to

Centrifuge decanter where it
was dewatered

3. Finally the Sludge is Disposed

Moving Bed Bio
Reactor (MBBR)
Moving Bed Bio Reactor MBBR

1. It is Used in Municipal and Industrial Waste water Treatment

2. Bod and Cod Removal

3. Nitrification and Denitrification

4. Removes 60 to 80 % of Influent Bod

5. it used in Industries to reduce to lead to Publicly owned

Treatment works

6. It is 100 Percent Flow Through Process

17
Moving Bed Bio Reactor MBBR

1. it is a Flow Through Process . in which the water is continuously

flows through the tank

2. Each Reactor will have bio-media called biofilm in which the

bacteria will grow

18
Moving Bed Bio Reactor MBBR

1. Biofilm is submerged in the tank. The bacteria will grow in media in

multiple layer

2. The bacterial digest the organics in waste and converts the soluble
to bio mass

19
Moving Bed Bio Reactor MBBR

1. The Oxygen is Blowed into the Tank with Stainless steel Aeration
Maniples

2. The Aeration Maniples are Strategically placed through the tank. To

have even coverage on entire volume of the tank

21
Moving Bed Bio Reactor MBBR

1. The Pumped air Makes Creates Radom motion in tank in

which the biofilm reacts with the Water.

2. Stainless steel media retention screen on placed on the

Effluent , Drain , over flow Flange . To avoid the Losses of
biofilm

22
Moving Bed Bio Reactor MBBR

1. In Industries , An Additional source of Ammonia and Phosphorus

is added to main the proper ratio of bacteria

2. The Treated Water is taken in the outflow
