VI. Project Objectives

A. Main Objective:
This project aims to provide solar street lights of the
residents using energy-saving solar panel streetlights in a
certain area of Barangay 9.

B. Specific Objectives:
1. To install solar power streetlights in the chosen area.
2. To save energy, which will be utilized to light the
following evenings.
3. To help residents feel safe and can help minimize crime.
4. To decrease susceptibility and to safeguard road users from
accidents
5. To ensure that vehicles drive safely, comfortably,
conveniently, and efficiently at night.
6. To enhance road visibility in order to improve convenience
and safety especially those who walks during night.
7. To promote social and economic activities such as
joggings, walking, and even support small businesses at
sidewalks during night.
VII. Project Description
a.) Background of the Project
In Barangay 9, Malaybalay City, the absence of solar street lights in certain
puroks poses a significant challenge to the safety and convenience of the residents,
particularly during night time ours. The roads are dimly lit, increasing the risk of
accident for people who walk or drive after dark. This situation not only comprises
the safety of individuals but also hinders the overall accessibility and livability of the
community.

The high number of people traveling at night highlights the urgent need for
sustainable solutions to improve visibility and safety. Without proper lighting,
residents feel unsafe, which affects the community's vibrancy and liveliness.
Installing solar street panels can address this issue, making the area safer and more
conducive to economic and social activities, ultimately fostering community
engagement and development.

Through the installation of solar street panels, Barangay 9 can pioneer the use
of clean energy and enhance street safety. This initiative aligns with environmental
objectives and serves as a model for other communities interested in the advantages of
renewable energy. Ultimately, the inclusion of solar panels will transform Barangay 9
into a safer, more accessible, and environmentally sustainable locality conducive to
thriving.
b.) Justification of the Project

Bringing solar panels to the dark roads in Barangay 9 provides a realistic

solution to the safety and accessibility issues that residents encounter as they walk or
drive through these zones. Solar panels are a sustainable and environmentally
acceptable means of generating electricity, using renewable energy sources to power
street lights along roads. With solar panels installed, the community can assure steady
lighting, increasing visibility and safety for individuals walking or driving, day or
night. Furthermore, this initiative is consistent with broader goals of boosting the use
of renewable energy and promoting long-term growth within the barangay.

Integrating solar panels into its infrastructure is a proactive step toward

improving community safety, accessibility, and environmental sustainability. By
utilizing the power of solar energy, the barangay can minimize its dependency on
traditional energy sources while also addressing safety concerns about poorly lit
roadways. This effort not only improves residents' quality of life, but it also helps to
strengthen the community's overall resilience and vitality.

The installation of solar roadway panels represents a practical and forward-thinking

approach to solve safety and accessibility concerns while promoting environmental
sustainability. By adopting renewable energy technologies, the barangay can create a
safer, more accessible, and environmentally friendly environment for its citizens.

c. Benefits derived from the project

The target audience will benefit from the project in terms of their safety,
making the Barangay less vulnerable by reducing robberies, burglaries, accidents and
other crimes that often happen in the dark. Street lighting through solar panels is low
maintenance, environment friendly and no electricity bills.

d. Coverage

The project will cover the street of a certain area in the assigned purok at
Barangay 9 with no streetlights, specifically for those residents living in the vicinity
and the people who pass by.

VIII. Methodology
Different crimes are widespread in the community nowadays and one of the
places where this happened is on dark alleys. Due to this, the group has decided to
implement this project. It is known that not all communities can afford to install a
traditional street light in all dark alleys in the community which is why the installation
of solar powered street lights is one of the alternative solutions. It offers several
benefits for the reason that it is energy-efficient and can also provide cost savings,
therefore it can really help the people in the community. The following methods will
be employed in the project:
Design and Development
Installing solar street lights involves several steps to ensure they are properly
set up and functional. The installation process includes selecting reliable solar lights
which has a long lifespan, suitable location, preparing the pole, mounting the solar
panel, installing the battery and controller, connecting the LED light fixture, and
wiring the components. The materials and tools needed for installation include a solar
street light kit, mounting hardware, concrete or soil, wire connectors and cables, basic
hand tools, a ladder or scaffolding, and safety gear.
Project Implementation
With the help of the people in the community and expert technicians, the
installation of solar powered street lights will be done accordingly. The process
should follow the manufacturer's instructions to properly connect and secure the
components. It is also important to choose a location with adequate sunlight exposure
throughout the day for the solar panel to charge the battery effectively. Moreover, the
pole should be tall enough to provide adequate lighting coverage and strong enough to
support the light fixture. The LED light fixture should be positioned at the appropriate
height and angle for effective illumination.
Evaluation and Monitoring
To make this project be sustainable and will help the community for a long
period of time, there are responsibilities that should be undertaken in order to achieve
the goals and objectives. The barangay will assign expert to monitor the efficiency
and functionality of the solar powered street lights. They should conduct regular site
visits and inspections to assess the condition of solar street lights and address any
maintenance issues promptly.
