FATIGUE CHECKS FOR REINFORCEMENT TO UNE EN 1992-2. RAILWAY BRIDGES

1 The fatigue verification of the reinforcement is carried out using the "Damage Equivalent Stress Method"
as permitted by clause 6.8.5 (3) of BS EN 1992-1-1 and detailed in Annex NN of BS EN 1992-2. This is
used in conjunction with the procedure defined in Annex NN of BS EN 1991-2 for Railway Bridges.

Stress range due to LM71 (*) 44.8 MPa Influence Line critical length 113 m

Fatigue stress range Dss,Ec 44.8 MPa Type of traffic Standard mix

Type of element Straight bars

(*) But excluding α according to EN 1991.2, and being placed in the most unfavourable position for the
element under consideration. For structures carrying multiple tracks, load model 71 shall be applied
to a maximum of two tracks.

The damage equivalent stress range for steel verification is calculated in accordance with equ NN.3.1
BS EN 1992-2 as Dss,equ = ls * Φ * Δσs,71

where ls is the correction factor to calculate the damage equivalent stress range from the stress range
caused by Φ * Δσs,71

Φ is the dynamic factor according to EN 1991-2 Dynamic factor Φ 1.05

The correction factor thakes into account the span, anual traffic volume, design life and multiple tracks.
