2 Introduction
2.1 Scope of the deliverable
This report, titled ‘D9.1.: Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation Plan’ (DCEP), aims to design the
strategy, plan and activities to be implemented under the DIGIECOQUARRY project, with the goal to maximise
the project’s visibility and impact. With that in mind, this deliverable outlines the approach to (i) effectively
communicate the project and disseminate its results, (ii) guide the partners in planning and implementing
their individual dissemination activities and (iii) continuously monitor the efficiency and the timely planning of
the actions.
With the plans and actions described, the DIGIECOQUARRY Consortium aims to meet the following
dissemination objectives:
§ To effectively promote the project and its results to all possible target groups and audiences at national
and a European level.
§ To establish links and liaisons with international organisations and other interested stakeholders to
provide wider dissemination.
§ To establish synergies with other relevant projects and initiatives.
§ To validate the project outcomes, to obtain feedback from expert groups, scientists and interested user
communities.
Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation strategies and actions are the cornerstone for generating a
deep impact of the DIGIECOQUARRY results in terms of attracting the interest of the main stakeholders and
social acceptance.
To maximise the impact beyond the project lifetime, these actions will be undertaken within three WPs: WP7.
Mechanisms for social acceptance and interaction with policy makers; WP8. Clustering activities for a solid EU
knowledge base on RM; and WP9. Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation.
These activities will be articulated in 4 master plans: [1] Dissemination strategy, [2] Clustering plan, [3]
Exploitation strategy and [4] Communication strategy (all of them based on this D9.1).

2.2 Relation to other activities and deliverables

The Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation Plan will serve as the basis for the dissemination,
communication, exploitation activities together with the monitoring of related intellectual property rights
facts foreseen in Tasks 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3 and WP7 and WP8. This deliverable will also provide the guidelines for
the organization of the project events and workshops as well as for the participation to external events and
other relevant initiatives. D9.1 will nurture the ground for the successful exploitation of DIGIECOQUARRY’s
results, as it will define the project’s main exploitable assets as well as the main stakeholder groups.

5 Dissemination & Communication channels & tools

The creation of dissemination & communication channels, graphical identity and promotional material is key
for enabling the effective dissemination of the project and its activities when needed. Promotional material
will be mainly used both at project workshops and external events, where DIGIECOQUARRY partners
participate. Also, it will be used to advertise the Project activities efficiently with a given “brand” image.
In compliance with the EU requirements on dissemination of results, as set in Grant Agreement number
101003750, Article 29, any dissemination of results (in any form, including electronic), must display the EU
emblem with appropriate prominence and also include the following text: “This project has received funding
from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No
101003750”.
In applications for protecting results (including patent applications), the following text must be included: “The
project leading to this application has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and
innovation programme under grant agreement Nº 101003750”.
In reports and deliverables of public dissemination level, the following disclaimer must also be included: “The
current report reflects only the author’s view and the DIGIECOQUARRY Consortium and the Commission are
not responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains”.
All obligations, requirements and consequences of no-compliance stated in the Grant Agreement can be found
in Annex II.
With that in mind, the main promotional material of the DIGIECOQUARRY project is described in the following
sub-sections.
The language of the project is English. All the dissemination & communication materials of the project will be
edited in that language, except for materials that need to be used in other EU languages, for other reasons
like facilitating access to the target audience, a requirement of the media or event, or for any other justified
reason.
The IQS platform will be available in English and in the languages of the project partners, in order to maximise
its dissemination.
Each partner will be responsible for translations to their own language (if considered necessary) and printing
of the material according to its specific needs.
Partners should not produce any kind of promotional material, related to the project, without the previous
review and approval of WP9 leader ANEFA.

5.1 Identity of DIGIECOQUARRY

The creation of a graphical identity and promotional material is key for enhance the visibility and identification
of the project.
5.1.1 Branding and graphical identity
DIGIECOQUARRY’s identity development was based on the three key concepts of the project: Digitalisation,
Ecology (biodiversity and environment) and the Aggregates Industry. The design of the brand and logo has
been developed to avoid the simple grouping of easy and hackneyed graphic representations of each of the
concepts. For this reason, a clear and simple monogram has been chosen, easily recognizable, and without
isotypes or iconography that would limit the scope of the project.
The representation of each concept is simply abstracted in the colours of each letter, only the “D” incorporates
a development of almost metallic layers that add more weight to its complex technological significance and
that will serve us for more elaborate animated developments. The arrangement of the letters superimposed
on top of each other, on the one hand, gives the monogram solidity and unity, ceasing to be single letters to
be a single symbol of identity, and on the other hand, it gives each concept specific weight and supports it in
the following, being a clear representation of the structure and philosophy of the project.
DIGIECOQUARRY’s logo was developed at the beginning of the project (M1) and has been approved by all the
partners.

The DIGIECOQUARRY presentation template will serve as our “Flag” in several events, conferences, meetings
as well as other occasions to disseminate project developments and results consistently, enhancing the overall
dissemination impact. So, it has been designed in line with the DIGIECOQUARRY graphic identity, in order to
promote its recognition and brand image.
The DIGIECOQUARRY deliverables & reports templates were produced in line with the overall communication
and dissemination material graphic identity and will be used by the consortium partners for the writing and
publication of all project deliverables & reports. The deliverable template has a cover page that displays the
project’s logo in a prominent position, its acronym and deliverable information (number, full title and work
package number).

case quarry and
§ The Tentative revenue models associated to the 4 groups of vendors/providers.
Workshops will be organised within the EB. To ensure high attendance and optimisation of resources, these
workshops will be scheduled on the same dates as the PMB meetings.
The EB will be composed by a representative of each partner.
The Exploitation plan will be updated and further developed and defined by D9.5 in M24 and M48.

6.3 DIGIECOQUARRY exploitable results

DIGIECOQUARRY goal is to achieve the widest possible development and validation of technologies and
methodologies in order to enable the possibility for a pre-commercial exploitation upon successful
demonstration.
DIGIECOQUARRY will develop different types of results: SW (including SW tools and techniques/
methodologies or protocols), Assets or fungible (hardware (HW), equipment, sensors, explosives, etc.) and
Services (Technical procedures, social license to operate, clustering activities, training, etc.) The consortium as
a whole and each project partner individually, intend to turn their participation in DIGIECOQUARRY into profit
(exploitation of the commercial and non-commercial results at proposal level, during and after the project).

6.4 Preliminary business plan: Feasibility Study

6.4.1 Tentative joint and individual business models
DIGIECOQUARRY will generate a wide portfolio of exploitable results: 1 SaaS Integration Platform (IQS), 24
SW/SW-HW that can be grouped in 11 functionalities, 4 equipment/products, and 9 services.
This will require the definition of individual and joint business models (BM) to guarantee their market
acceptance as future products, processes and services.
Bearing in mind the influence of these results as innovations in the holistic management process of mining
exploitations (i.e., main aim of the DIGIECOQUARRY project), they can be classified in 2 groups:
§ Core Innovations considering the IQS as smart platform to optimise the cross-cutting management of
mining exploitations, as well as those technologies that improve its efficient connectivity – see groups 2,
3 and 4 of the section below - and
§ Field innovations such as assets, equipment and fungible required to increase the performance of certain
mining processes through data collection and transfer techniques – see group 1.
Quarry owners and/or managers are considered the main potential clients. They are willing-to-pay for a
“turnkey solution” that help to maximise the profitability (optimisation of current OPEX & CAPEX) of their
quarries making their business models more competitive. Undoubtedly, each “turnkey solution” will require a
tailor-made design of an amalgam the technologies to satisfy the operational needs of a client according to
the size of the mining exploitation. To simply the business plan, the quarry managers will ensure the purchase
of the IQS as “orchestrator solution”.
Therefore, it is crucial to define an attractive and relevant business model, scalable and profitable that
guarantee the mass commercialisation of this core innovation in all types of quarries. A successful
commercialisation of IQS will act as a driver and booster of a higher commercialisation of the field innovations.
As owner and integrator, AKKA will be in charge of the commercialisation of the IQS following a SaaS (Software
as a Service) business model and offer an OSS (Open Source Software) consultancy B2B service to provide
support towards the customisation, configuration, installation and fine-tuning (digital transformation service).
In this sense, AKKA will reach business agreements with SIGMA and APP to offer advanced modules (BIM&AI)
in the IQS.
This challenge will require to establish joint and individual exploitation agreements among the partners,
introduce the innovation in the business portfolio of the companies or even, create new companies (start-ups,

spin-offs) or corporate brands. ANEFA as Exploitation Manager will support the partners case-by-case during
execution (T9.3).
6.4.2 Target clients, end-users and unique selling points (USPs)
Quarry owners and managers are the main potential clients of the innovations developed in the project.
Nowadays, the size and typology of the quarry manager/owner (SME, Mid-cap or Large company) directly
depends on the size of the quarry. Therefore, these criteria are crucial for their segmentation: A) Small-size
quarries (small-sized quarries with less than 10 workers, representing 70% of EU sites) and B) Lage-size or

6.4.3 Business relationships among the partners of the consortium

Each partner will generate exploitable results in the future its own channels and strategies (see Table 5).
This exploitation strategy will be defined during the development of the individual exploitation plans.
However, all results are connected to the core and orchestrator technology of DIGIECOQUARRY: the IQS
solution. Figure 14 envisages technology transfer agreements and tentative business models according to the
role of each partner in the value chain, as well as the ownership of the result generated in the project. An extra
effort will be focused on establishing joint agreements among the partners to satisfy the “customisation level”
of the products/services demanded by the potential clients, acting AKKA as integrator and main SW vendor.
This approach will pivot around the commercialisation of IQS as key enabling technology to offer a digital
ecosystem.

Figure 14. Relations among DIGIECOQUARRY partners.

1| IT component providers at module level| Control and decision-support systems, simulation platforms (SW):
This group will consider 2 types of clients: 1) IQS provider/integrators (for those business opportunities where
they offer an enhanced IQS solution) or 2) Quarry managers/owners interested to directly acquire these
solutions. On one hand, UPM, CHALMERS, MUL will directly license their know-how and will explore the way
to create a “business-vehicle” (start-up, joint venture, spin-off, etc.) in the framework of DIGIECOQUARRY. On
the other hand, MAESTRO, ARCO, ABAUT, DH&P, ITK, MAXAM, MINTEK as companies will generate incomes
from the direct commercialisation of their products.
2| Field innovation providers | Assets, equipment and fungible: SANDVIK, METSO, MAXAM, ITK will generate
incomes from the direct sales of their innovations to quarry owners/managers. After the project, these
companies will directly offer their products and services to increase the performance of the quarry processes
and consequently, improving the profitability of the quarry.
3| IQS smart connection providers | Smart connection with BIM and AI: As in the previous group, APP and
SIGMA will directly sell the necessary smart connection components to both types of clients: 1) IQS provider
& 2) Quarry managers/owners], in order to provide a smooth connection with BIM solutions or integrate an
advanced AI motor.
4| IQS provider/integrator | IQS platform: AKKA as a leading engineering company will act as a SW vendor and
integrator. It will support the B2B commercialisation of IQS via SaaS and will offer an OSS consultancy services.
AKKA will offer standard packages of IQS that could incorporate a set of IT components and smart connections
developed by other partners. This issue will require an analysis case-by-case with the quarry managers as
potential clients.

§ ≥2 videos.
Other KPIs that will be applied to the communication and dissemination plan will be related with the number
of:
§ Attendees to meetings, workshops, events, etc.
§ Citizens involved in surveys & enquiries.
To meet these target values, project partners are expected to continuously carry out publicity actions and also
continuously report all publicity and communication actions. ANEFA will be responsible for the overall
monitoring and evaluation of DIGIECOQUARRY’s dissemination activities.
Reporting of any dissemination activity and publication is expected from partners by completing the required
templates and sending them to WP9 leader ANEFA, at the latest three weeks after the dissemination activity
or publication.
Especially for the participation in external events, partners should follow the respective guidelines. In the case
of events organized by the project, the partner responsible for the organization of the event must prepare an
Event Report, following a template, at the latest three weeks after the dissemination activity or publication.
Partners should not produce any kind of promotional material related to the project without the previous
review and approval of WP9 leader ANEFA. Each project partner should immediately contact ANEFA if they
identify opportunities, problems or risks arising while planning or implementing publicity actions.
A DCEP Dashboard is developed, monthly updated and communicated to all the partners, with the following
structure:
§ KPI X.
§ Final target (A) according to Grant Agreement.
§ Number of actions related with KPI X implemented at the date (B).
§ Absolute deviation from final target (B-A).
§ % of implementation (B/A%).
§ Relative deviation from average expected target (B-A/48*Month of the project).
§ Relative % of deviation from average expected target ((B/(A/48*Month of the project)-1).
The final list of KPIs and their values will be reported in an updated version of the “DIGIECOQUARRY
Communication and Dissemination Activities report” (deliverable D9.4).
In order to simplify the follow-up of their own actions by each partner, a table compiling all the actions
expected from each partner has been created. This information is included in Annex XXI.
The Project KPI Management Dashboard is included in Annex XXII.

9 Conclusions
This document, titled “Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation Plan”, provided the framework and
guidelines for the successful implementation of dissemination and communication activities, as well as for the
exploitation of the project, throughout its lifespan and beyond.
As the project evolves, this document will be updated and refined in order to provide a more detailed analysis
of the dissemination actions and plans.
The actions and plans of this deliverable answer to the following questions:
§ What to disseminate?
§ To whom?
§ By what means?
§ When?
This document also provides the monitoring mechanism of the dissemination and communication activities,
which is based on targeted KPIs.
By communicating the project’s tangible and intangible assets through the most effective channels and tools
to timely reach the targeted groups, DIGIECOQUARRY will be able to not only go beyond these ambitious KPIs
but most importantly to lay the foundations for the successful rollout, replication and thus sustainability of its
outcomes.

12 Annex II. Article 29 - Dissemination of results - Open

access - Visibility of EU funding
12.1 Obligation to disseminate results (article 29.1)
Unless it goes against their legitimate interests, each beneficiary must — as soon as possible — ‘disseminate’
its results by disclosing them to the public by appropriate means (other than those resulting from protecting
or exploiting the results), including in scientific publications (in any medium).
This does not change the obligation to protect results in Article 27, the confidentiality obligations in Article 36,
the security obligations in Article 37 or the obligations to protect personal data in Article 39, all of which still
apply.
A beneficiary that intends to disseminate its results must give advance notice to the other beneficiaries of —
unless agreed otherwise — at least 45 days, together with sufficient information on the results it will
disseminate.
Any other beneficiary may object within — unless agreed otherwise — 30 days of receiving notification if it
can show that its legitimate interests in relation to the results or background would be significantly harmed.
In such cases, the dissemination may not take place unless appropriate steps are taken to safeguard these
legitimate interests.
If a beneficiary intends not to protect its results, it may — under certain conditions (see Article 26.4.1 of the
Grant Agreement) — need to formally notify the Agency before dissemination takes place.

12.2 Open access to scientific publications (article 29.2)

Each beneficiary must ensure open access (free of charge online access for any user) to all peer-reviewed
scientific publications relating to its results.
In particular, it must:
(a) as soon as possible and at the latest on publication, deposit a machine-readable electronic copy of the
published version or final peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication in a repository for scientific
publications.
Moreover, the beneficiary must aim to deposit at the same time the research data needed to validate the
results presented in the deposited scientific publications.
(b) ensure open access to the deposited publication — via the repository — at the latest:
(i) on publication, if an electronic version is available for free via the publisher, or
(ii) within six months of publication (twelve months for publications in the social sciences and
humanities) in any other case.
(c) ensure open access — via the repository — to the bibliographic metadata that identify the deposited
publication.
The bibliographic metadata must be in a standard format and must include all of the following:
§ the terms “European Union (EU)” and “Horizon 2020”.
§ the name of the action, acronym and grant number.

§ the publication date, and length of embargo period if applicable, and

§ a persistent identifier.

12.3 Open access to research data (article 29.3)

Not applicable.

12.4 Information on EU funding — Obligation and right to use the EU emblem (article
29.4)
Unless the Agency requests or agrees otherwise or unless it is impossible, any dissemination of results (in any
form, including electronic) must:
(a) display the EU emblem and
(b) include the following text:
‘This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation
programme under grant agreement No 101003750’.
When displayed together with another logo, the EU emblem must have appropriate prominence.
For the purposes of their obligations under this Article, the beneficiaries may use the EU emblem without first
obtaining approval from the Agency.
This does not however give them the right to exclusive use.
Moreover, they may not appropriate the EU emblem or any similar trademark or logo, either by registration
or by any other means.

12.5 Disclaimer excluding Agency responsibility (article 29.5)

Any dissemination of results must indicate that it reflects only the author's view and that the Agency is not
responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains.

12.6 Consequences of non-compliance (article 29.6)

If a beneficiary breaches any of its obligations under this Article, the grant may be reduced (see Article 43).
Such a breach may also lead to any of the other measures described in Chapter 6.

Technology will be applied to local deposits to obtain RMs appropriate for industrial
utilisation. While currently used technologies are very expensive and
environmentally not acceptable, low cost and ecological method of bioleaching are
suggested. Bioleaching is an alternative way of improving deposits via the activity of
bacteria, which induce changes of chemical and structural features of rocks and

minerals. The challenge of the project is to configure and improve this effective,
