Q1. Solve the following pairs of linear equations by substitution method:


(a) 2𝑥𝑥 + 3𝑦𝑦 − 8 = 0, 𝑥𝑥 + 5𝑦𝑦 − 11 = 0

Form the pair of linear equations for the following problems and find their solution by
substitution method:

Q3. The sum of two numbers is 39 and also five times the one number is eight times the other. Find
the numbers.

Q4. Amar buys 2 sarees and three shirts for ₹ 4200. Later he buys 1 saree and eight shirts for ₹ 6000.
Find the cost of each saree and shirt.

Q7. Two stations 𝐴𝐴 and 𝐵𝐵 are 400km apart from each other on a highway. 𝐴𝐴 car starts from 𝐴𝐴 and
another from 𝐵𝐵 at the same time. If they go in same direction, they meet in 5 hours and if they go in

Form the pair of linear equations in the following problems and find their solution using
elimination method:

Q2. The sum of a two-digit number and the number obtained by reversing the order of its digits is 66
and the two digits differ by 2. Find the number.

Q3. Father's age is three times the sum of the ages of his two children. After 8 years, his age will be
twice the sum of ages of two children. Find the age of father.

Q4. The total expenditure per month of a house consists of a fixed rent of the house and food
consumption charge depending upon the number of people sharing the house. The total monthly
expenditure is ₹11600 for 3 people and ₹17600 for 8 people. Find the rent of the house and the mess
charges per head per month.

Q5. The ratio of the incomes of two persons is 4: 3 and this expense is 17: 12. If each of them saves
₹12000, find their monthly incomes.
