Methodology

In this chapter, research design, respondents of the study or the population,

sampling design and the research instruments such as questionnaires were discussed.

The reliability test of the results, validity of the questionnaires and data analysis were

also tackled.

Research Design

This study uses descriptive-correlational research design. The correlation

method is used since it involves looking at relationships between two or more variables.

The advantage of using descriptive-correlational research design is that it gives valid

reasons on why a particular variable is related to another since the descriptive research

design was defining each variable. This was thought to reward-based behavior to

increase pupils' punctuality and decrease tardiness plan adjustment.

This study also discussed the factors affecting tardiness and the student’s

tardiness behavior. The data were gathered, and the results were tabulated and

interpreted. Moreover, the data collection included the gathering of the numerical values

obtained from the questionnaires and the basis of investigating the research problem

(Asajar, 2018).
Setting

This study is conducted at Gingoog Christian College located at Barangay 23

Gingoog City with poplution of _______ including the administration, students, teachers,

guard, utility, and the student assistance.

Sampling Procedure

There were 150 random respondents of this study. They were the first 10

students in the list of tardiness in every section of Junior High School students of

Gingoog Christian College based in their monthly attendance record provided by the

class beadle.

Research Instrument

The researchers adapted and modified questionnaires from the studies of

Apostol et al., (2018) entitled “The Relationship of the Rate of Class Tardiness and the

Academic Performance of Grade 12 STEM students in MNHS: A Basis for Making a

Data Filled Info Graphic” and from the study of Asajar et al., (2018) entitled “Factors

That Contribute to Tardiness as perceived by Grade 11 HUMSS of San Antonio de

Padua College”. Instrument A evaluated the student’s circumstances, Instrument B

Instrument C determined the teacher attitude, Instrument D identified the schoolmate’s

influence and Instrument D focused on student’s tardiness behavior.

Gathering Procedure

The procedure of the data gathering would be research made survey

questionnaire via face to face. The researcher starts gathering data when research

teacher gives instruction to do so. The flow of gathering data will be follows. The

researcher visits the classroom and ready research questions. The researchers gather

the data from the participants and obtain more information to support research. After

gathering data, the researchers total the survey to account for any issues or

occurrences and evaluate it and finally analyse the answers given by the respondents.
Scoring Procedure

The following procedures guide the organization of the data in the study.

A. Student’s Circumstances

Range Point value Description

1.00-1.75 1 Strongly Agree

1.76-2.50 2 Agree

2.51-3.25 3 Disagree

3.26-4.00 4 Strongly Disagree

B. Teacher Attitude

Range Point value Description

1.00-1.75 1 Always

1.76-2.50 2 Often

2.51-3.25 3 Sometimes

3.26-4.00 4 Rarely

C. Schoolmate’s Influence

Range Point value Description

11.00-1.75 1 Strongly Agree

1.76-2.51 2 Agree

2.51-3.25 3 Disagree

3.26-4.00 4 Strongly Disagree

D. Student’s Tardiness Behaviour

Range Point value Description

1.00-1.75 1 Strongly Agree

1.76-2.52 2 Agree

2.51-3.25 3 Disagree

3.26-4.00 4 Strongly Disagree

Statistical Treatment and Data Analysis

The researchers used the following statistical tools to facilitate the analysis and

interpretation of data:

For problems 1 and 2, the researchers used descriptive statistics analysis such

as the mean, frequency and percentage distribution that determined the respondents’

assessment on the factors affecting student’s tardiness namely: teacher attitude,

schoolmate’s influence and student’s circumstances and its student’s tardiness

behavior.
For problem 3, the researchers utilized the multiple linear regression that verify

whether the students’ assessment on the factors affecting tardiness namely: teacher

attitude, schoolmate’s influence and student’s circumstances will affect the student’s

tardiness behavior.
