Many of the example organizations used in the class material or in the textbook
are unfamiliar or unrelatable to many students. Most examples used reflect the
dominant business culture norm of North America - white, European, male, middle to
upper class. To help broaden our perspectives, prepare a more meaningful example of
great leadership to use in class. Choose one person from the Great Leader’s List
provided. As a team, prepare a 10 to 15-minute informal oral presentation on your
chosen leader, focusing on the four aspects of the medicine wheel model provided
below.
A medicine wheel depicts four quadrants that can represent the four directions
(east, south, west, and north), four aspects of self (physical, emotional, mental, and
spiritual), life stages. Indigenous Nations offer different teachings involving the circular
nature of life (colours, meaning, interpretations and uses). The medicine wheel is a
current adaptation to the individualized teachings many different Indigenous nations
offer to contribute to balance in life, achieving self-development and working through life
stages as well as gain teachings to live and contribute to the best life possible. Please
watch this video on the Medicine Wheel to aid in your understanding of this teaching
tool. https://www.ictinc.ca/blog/what-is-an-indigenous-medicine-wheel
