Internship Report
1. Introduction 1.1. I was attached to the accounting firm, SH Tan & Partner, located in
Batu, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My internship journey started on October 1, 2023, and
ended on March 31, 2024, spanning a total of six months. 1.2. SH Tan & Partner is a
reputable accounting firm that provides a wide range of financial services to various
companies. The firm has a strong reputation for its professionalism and commitment
to delivering high-quality services. 1.3. The company’s business activities include
auditing, tax planning, business advisory, and other accounting-related services.
These services are designed to help businesses maintain financial transparency and
comply with regulatory requirements. 1.4. The objective of my internship was to gain
practical experience in the field of accounting and to understand the workings of an
accounting firm.
2. Tasks and Events During my training period, I was assigned various tasks such as
data entry for different companies, preparing salary listings, managing fixed asset
listings, and filing documents. These tasks provided me with a comprehensive
understanding of the day-to-day operations of an accounting firm. I also participated
in a bowling tournament and Chinese New Year celebrations, which were
unforgettable events that fostered team spirit and camaraderie.
3. Company Analysis (SWOT) A SWOT analysis of SH Tan & Partner reveals its
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The firm’s strengths lie in its
experienced team and diverse service offerings. However, it faces challenges such as
intense competition in the accounting industry. Opportunities for the firm include
expanding its services to new industries and leveraging technology to improve
efficiency. Threats could be regulatory changes and economic downturns.
4. Recommendations 4.1. One issue I observed was the firm’s heavy reliance on
manual processes, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors. 4.2. I suggest
that the firm could invest in accounting software to automate some of its processes.
This could improve efficiency, reduce errors, and free up staff time for more complex
tasks.
5. Conclusion 5.1. My internship at SH Tan & Partner was a valuable learning
experience. I gained practical skills in accounting, understood the workings of an
accounting firm, and learned about the importance of teamwork and corporate
culture. This experience has enriched my knowledge and prepared me for my future
career in accounting.
