NSTP stands for National Service Training Program.

It is a program in the Philippines aimed at

enhancing civic consciousness and defense preparedness among Filipino youth. NSTP was
established through Republic Act 9163, also known as the National Service Training Program Act of
2001. The program mandates all college students to undergo either of the three components:
Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), or Literacy Training
Service (LTS). These components aim to instill values of patriotism, volunteerism, and social
responsibility among the youth. Here's a brief overview of each component:

1. Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC): This component provides military training to
students, with the goal of developing their leadership, discipline, and teamwork skills. ROTC
participants undergo physical fitness training, military drills, and classroom instruction on
military science and tactics. Upon completion, students may opt to join the reserve force of
the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
2. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS): CWTS focuses on community service and
development. Participants engage in various activities such as environmental conservation,
disaster preparedness, health promotion, and literacy programs. The goal is to enable
students to actively contribute to nation-building by addressing the needs of marginalized
communities.
3. Literacy Training Service (LTS): LTS aims to promote literacy and education among
underprivileged sectors of society. Participants assist in teaching literacy and numeracy skills
to out-of-school youth, street children, and other disadvantaged groups. LTS activities may
also include conducting educational workshops, storytelling sessions, and tutoring programs.

Through NSTP, Filipino college students are given the opportunity to contribute positively to their
communities while gaining valuable skills and experiences that will benefit them personally and
professionally. Participation in NSTP is a requirement for graduation in all tertiary-level institutions in
the Philippines.
