LESSON PLAN
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the 60-minute lesson, the learners should be able to:
● Identify what is cause and effect in the given context.
● Work collaboratively to make an output.
● Recognize the importance of learning cause and effect.
MOTIVATION:
For the motivational activity, the teacher will play the video provided. The students
will only watch and listen through their own screen.
LESSON PROPER:
To begin the discussion about the Cause and Effect, the teacher will show pictures as
an example first.
(A) (B)
Look at the first picture… Why did the girl stumble? That’s right! In the second picture,
you can see it’s because the shoelace was not properly tied.
The girl stumbled (Pic. A) because she did not tie her shoelace properly (Pic. B).
Next example…
Take a look at the picture. How are they related? Can you tell which happens first and
which happens next?
That's correct! The picture A shows the Cause and picture B shows the Effect.
Because it waters the plant (Picture A), it grows fast (Picture B).
These are what you called connector words. Some are the following:
● Cause: because, since, due to, If, when
For example:
> Due to the typhoon, our class was suspended.
● Effect: so, therefore, as a result, consequently, thus, then
For example:
> My mother was tired so she rested.
But, sometimes no connector words are used.
More example:
● My sister was sick, so we took him to the hospital.
● The water glass was broken because it fell from the table.
● I was sweating because it was so hot.
● Rob woke up late, as a result he was late for his class.
● Ela forgot to bring her crayons for her art class and therefore she borrowed
from her classmate.
C. Guided Practice
Collaborative Activity
The teacher will group the students into 5 groups. Each of them will receive a paper that
contains a short story. They need to read the story first then identify the cause and effect in
the story. Write it on a piece of paper and present it in front of the class. The teacher will give
them 20 minutes to finish the activity.
The following are the short stories provide for each group:
:
Group 1 (The Boy Who Cried Wolf)
There was once a shepherd boy who liked to play tricks. One day, while he was
watching over the herd, the boy decided to play a trick and cried “wolf! wolf!”. The
people who heard rushed over to help him. But they were disappointed when they
saw that there was no wolf and the boy was laughing at them. The next day, he did it
again and people rushed to his aid only to be disappointed once again. On the third
day, the boy saw a wolf devouring one of his sheep and cried for help. But the people
who heard him thought this is just another of the boy’s pranks so no one came to help
him. That day, the boy lost some of his sheep to the wolf.
