What is a Battery Management System?
Introduction to Battery Management
System
 A Battery Management System is an electronic system that
manages and monitors the performance of the battery.

 It ensures that the battery operates within safe limits and

optimizes its performance for maximum efficiency and longevity.

 Responsible for monitoring the state of charge, temperature, and

voltage of the battery and controlling the charging and
discharging process.
Problem
Statement
The degradation rate is affected by several
factors including temperature, charge and
discharge voltage, current, and the level at
which the battery is charged or discharged.
Understanding these factors can largely help
to reduce the speed of battery failure and allow
batteries to better serve their purpose.
An optimum percentage of charge is required
to be maintained and this can be achieved using
BMS.
What is the NECESSITY OF BMS?
 With the high voltage and energy density of modern batteries,
even a small fault can lead to tragic failure. But if we use BMS
then it constantly monitors the battery's health and takes
measures to prevent any potential issues.

 With increased volume of EVs globally, and all these primarily run by
Lithium-ion batteries, the most important component in working
behind these are the Battery Management System that continuously
monitors each battery cell for safe operations.

§ Model Efficiency vs Existing Model
§ Cell Voltage balancing vs Time
Circuit Diagram
A Circuit for a 3S battery will be
formed and will be Implemented on a
PCB.

We will try to balance all the 3 cells at

Procedure the same time so that it doesn’t lead
to overcharging or over discharging.

Values will be calculated

for various factors which
will be plotted using Matlab.
Limitations
 Efficiency
 The circuit need to be changed if number of cells with the battery are changed
