Introduction

According to Darell R. Carpenter (2018). traditional door locks in schools can pose
several challenges. One common issue is the potential for lost or stolen keys, which can
compromise the security of the school. Additionally, traditional locks may be open to
unauthorized duplication of keys, increasing the risk of unauthorized access to school
facilities. Furthermore, in the event of an emergency lockdown, the process of securing all
doors with traditional locks can be time-consuming and may not provide the level of security
required.

These challenges underscore the need for more secure and efficient access control
systems in school environments. The continued use of traditional door locks in schools has
been a recurring issue. With the increasing emphasis on student safety and security, it is
imperative to examine the potential shortcomings of traditional locks and explore more
advanced alternatives.

Traditional door locks, such as key-based systems or manual deadbolts, have been
widely used in schools for decades. While they have served their purpose to some extent, they
possess inherent vulnerabilities that could compromise the safety of students and staff. One of
the key concerns is the ease with which keys can be lost or duplicated, leading to
unauthorized access to school premises.

Moreover, in an emergency situation, traditional locks can be time-consuming and

may pose unnecessary risks during a crisis. To address these concerns, one effective
alternative is the use of electronic or smart locks. These locks can be accessed through
biometric scanners, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized entry when there are risks
that may occur during a disaster or unexpected events.

it is crucial to consider the financial implications of transitioning from traditional

locks to more advanced systems. The costs associated with installation, maintenance, and
training staff to use these new systems must be carefully evaluated. Additionally, any
potential interaction issues or technical limitations should be thoroughly examined to ensure a
smooth transition and uninterrupted functionality.

Biometric door locks in schools can offer improved security and convenience. The
innovation involves using unique biological traits, such as fingerprints and hand prints, to
grant access. This can help prevent unauthorized entry and ensure only approved individuals
can enter specific areas. Strategically, implementing biometric door locks in schools requires
careful planning and consideration of privacy, security, and logistical factors. It is essential to
ensure that the chosen biometric system is reliable, easy to use, and resistant to tampering.
Moreover, integrating such technology demands clear communication with all stakeholders,
including students, parents, and faculty, to address concerns about data privacy and secure
storage of biometric information. Ultimately, the strategy should focus on enhancing safety
while respecting individual privacy and maintaining operational efficiency within school
environments.

Conducting research on the implementation of biometric door locks in schools holds

significant importance for various reasons. First and foremost, ensuring the safety and
security of students, teachers, and staff within educational institutions is paramount. By
utilizing biometric door locks, schools can enhance their overall security measures, mitigating
the risk of unauthorized entry and potential threats.

According to Wencheng Yang et al. (2019) Biometric door locks provide an extra
layer of protection by using unique physical or behavioral characteristics, such as fingerprints,
to grant access. Unlike traditional lock-and-key systems or access cards, biometric technology
offers a higher level of accuracy and eliminates the possibility of stolen, lost, or forged
credentials. Researching the effectiveness and reliability of biometric door locks in schools
helps determine their feasibility as a reliable security solution. The implementation of
biometric door locks can enhance the efficiency of access control systems in schools. With
traditional lock-and-key methods, keys can be misplaced, resulting in delays or security
vulnerabilities. Biometric technology streamlines the access process, eliminating the need for
physical keys or cards and allowing authorized personnel to enter the premises effortlessly.
This not only saves time but also ensures optimal monitoring and control of entry points,
thereby enhancing overall school administration.

Significance of the Study:

Students. It will be easier for students who do not have a key to access their classroom.

Teachers. They can have peace of mind knowing that only authorized individuals can their
classrooms or other restricted areas. This can help prevent unauthorized persons form
accessing sensitive materials or posing a threat to the teachers or students.

School. Enhanced security biometric door lock systems allow schools to have more control
over who can enter specific areas of the facility. Different access permission can be set,
granting different levels of access to classroom, while students may have access to common
areas. This helps prevent unauthorized entry into restricted areas and ensures the safety of
students and staff.

Education technocrats. Entry systems, there is no need to issue and manage physical keys or
access cards for every individual. This reduces administrative tasks related to keys, saves
time, and allows educational technocrats to focus on other important matters.
