    COLLABORATIVE TUTORIAL

    1. Define and give 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages of following power station:

    • Coal power station

    • Nuclear Power Station

    • Hydropower station

    2. Describe the main components of the national grid.

    3. Distinguish between generation, transmission, and distribution.

    4. Sketch and explain radial and ring distribution system. What is a grid substation? Cleary

    distinguish between transmission lines, feeders, distributors, and service mains. Show

    on your diagram typical voltage levels and whether 3-wire or 4-wire systems are used.

    5. Give 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages of ring systems.

    6. Explain the 6% rule. Give an example.

    7. Explain loadshedding and provide a clear reason why Eskom implement it.

    8. List all Eskom power station. Provide their installed capacity and they actual electricity

    generation capacity.
