ALMZ Alarm Box

Functions
1) Providing the alarm information of four levels and four types and providing their
corresponding visible/audible alarms;
2) Providing the information retrieving function of SPCE, which can store 999
pieces of the alarm messages at most;
3) Displaying the system time of SPCE;
4) Providing the input port of switch alarm parameters;
5) Providing the hierarchy connection of the alarm, the maximum transmission
distance supported is 500 meters.

Implications of the indicator light

Both nixie lights and luminotrons are used in the alarm box to provide the actual
alarm message, which may be distinguished by the silk-screen mark on the panel.

Implications of the switch and jumper

Switches and jumpers on the display panel
z BJ: If it is closed off, the alarm box may give the audible alarm (by buzzer) while
the power fails.
S2: General power switch of the alarm box
z Switches and jumpers on the motherboard
J5-J8: They are three-pin jumpers that are used to indicate whether the external
alarms of E1-E4 are effective on open circuit or on short pass. There are two versions
of the motherboard:CC01ALMM and CC02ALMM. As for CC01ALMM, if J5-J8 are
switched to the left, it indicates that "effective on close off". If they are switched to the
right, it indicates that "effective on open circuit". As for CC02ALMM, if J5-J8 are
switched downward, it indicates that "effective on close off". If they are switched
upward, it indicates that "effective on open circuit".
S1: Setting of the two-digit DIP switch
S1-1 and S1-2: Because P1 and P2 share two serial ports with J9 and J10. When
S1-1 and S1-2 are set as OFF, both TTL ports of J9 and J10 are effective; when S1-1
and S1-2 are set as ON, both RS232 ports of P1 and P2 are effective.
S3: Setting of the eight-digit DIP switch
S3-1: Determining the bit rate of the P1 port. While S3-1 is set to ON, bit rate of the
P1 port is 2400bps. If S3-1 is set as OFF, that of the P1 port is 19200bps (S3-4 is set
as OFF) or 4800bps (S3-4 is set as ON).
S3-2 and S3-3: Option switches of the hierarchy mode
Table 1 Illustrates implications of S3-2 and S3-3.

Table 1 Implications of S3-2 and S3-3

S3-2 S3-3 Hierarchy mode
OFF OFF J3(Ρ)J4
ON OFF P2(Ρ)P1
OFF ON J3(Ρ)P1
ON ON P2(Ρ)J4

In the field of the "Hierarchy mode", "J3J4" indicates that the alarm message is
received by the J3 port and then transferred to the J4 port. Other fields indicate in the
same way.
S3-4: Determining bit rates of all ports except the P1 port. If S3-4 is set as OFF, the
bit rate is 19200bps; if S3-4 is set as ON, the bit rate is 4800bps.
S3-7: When the motherboard of the alarm box is CC01ALMM, S3-7 is set as ON;
when the motherboard is CC02ALMM, S3-7 is set as OFF. One difference between
CC01ALMM and CC02ALMM is that: the former has six RS232 ports of DB9 while the
latter only has two.
S3-8: Determining whether the continuous alarm sound will be given off. When S3-8
is set as OFF, the continuos audible alarm will be given off on receiving the alarm; if
S3-8 is set as ON, the audible alarm will only last for ten seconds.

External distributions
Descriptions of the port
P1-P2: Two RS232 serial ports that may be connected to PC, MODEM and other
equipment that have the RS232 port as well. They correspond to CH0 and CH1.
J3-J4: Two RS422 ports. By default, J3 will connect to the alarm board of the host, J4
will connect to the next alarm box in the hierarchy way. They correspond to CH2 and
CH3.
J9-J10: Two TTL level ports corresponding to CH0 and CH1.
J1-J2: Input ports for two groups of external alarms. They are capable of connecting
to sixteen types of external alarms. Please see Figure1 for the illustration.

E2: Fire alarm. It may be set as "effective on close off" or "effective on open circuit" by
setting the J6 jumper.
E3: Temperature alarm. It may be set as "effective on close off" or "effective on open
circuit" by setting the J7 jumper.
E4: Humidity alarm. It may be set as "effective on close off" or "effective on open
circuit" by setting the J8 jumper.
E5: Smoke and dust alarm, effective on close off.
E6: Theft alarm, effective on close off.
E7: Reserved jumper, effective on close off.
E9: General power supply, effective on close off.
E10: Primary power supply, effective on close off.
E11: Secondary power supply, effective on close off.
E12: Battery, effective on close off.
