How are you class?
We are doing well, sir.
Good to hear that.

4. Checking of Attendance
So, let us have the checking of
attendance. Class Secretary, do we have
any absentees for today?
(The secretary of the class will state
the names of the absentee/s.)
Okay, thank you! You may now take a
sit.

5. Review
Let us first have a short recap of what we
discussed last time.

Anyone, who wants to share his/her

understanding of our last topic?
Last meeting we have discussed
about some of the Filipino beliefs
during wedding days.
Very good! So, what are those beliefs?
Pamamanhikan, Veil and Cord, 13
Coins / Aras, A Shower of Rice, and
Money Dance / Gala
Very good! It seems that you have really
learned from our previous lesson. So,
today, we will be discussing another topic

that is still connected on expressing

one’s beliefs/convictions based on a
material viewed.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Before we formally start our lesson, let’s
first have a quick activty.

In this activity, I will be showing various

statements/situtations that depicts
different beliefs or perspectives of people
in a particular aspect of life. Your task is
to react to each statements by selecting
a thumbs up or a thumbs down reaction
card, which represents your agreement.
If you agree with the idea of the
statement, select thumbs up. If you
disagree, select thumbs down and
provide a breif explanation for your
answer. Are my instructions clear?
Yes, Sir.
Okay. So let us have the first statement.

“Traditions bind us.”

Anyone, who would like to come forward

and give a reaction?

(agree or thumbs up reaction)

Because traditions bring us together
and help us remember who we are.
Very good! Let us have the second
statement.

Competence. Tenacity. Excellence. Page 3

KOLEHIYO NG LUNGSOD NG LIPA
MARAWOY LIPA CITY
COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION

“A man, to become a man, must have a

child to come after him.”

(disagree or thumbs down reaction)

Because I believe that having or not
having a child doesn’t define a man
as a person.
Alright! How about the others?

(agree or thumbs up reaction)

Because I believe that if a man has a
child, that completes him as a
husband and a father of a family.
Very good! Now, let us have the last
statement.

“Love is letting go.”

(disagree or thumbs down reaction)

Because love is about holding on and
not letting your loved ones go.
That’s right! How about the others?

(agree or thumbs up reaction)

Because a person can also be tired in
a relationship, especially if it's toxic,
letting go and moving on is a way to
escape pain.

Very good! So, everything we did a while

ago is somehow related to our topic for
today. But before anything else, let us
have your first activity.

2. Activity
In this activity, I will be playing a short
clip about a story. Your task is to watch
the video carefully and comprehensively
and answer the questions provided. After
the video, you will be given another 3
minutes to execute the task. Are my
instructions clear?
Yes, Sir.
Processing Questions:
1. What was the story/ video all about?
2. What beliefs/ traditions was mentioned
in the story/ video.
3. If you were one of the characters, are
you going to do the same thing as they
do? Why or why not?

(after 3 minutes)

3. Analysis
The activity you just did is also
connected with our topic for today.
Before we proceed to our lesson proper,
let us hear first your answers to the
questions being provided.

Let us have your answers on the

question number 1. Anyone, who would
like to share his/her answer?
The story/ video was all about the
love story of two person who couldn’t

bare a child.
(answers may vary)
That’s right! How about the others?
(varied answers form the students)
Very good! So, the story you just watch
was all about Awiyao and Lumnay, a
couple in a Filipino village. They've been
married for seven years but have no
children, which is important in their
culture.

Let us proceed to the second question.

Who would like to give/ share his/ her
answers?
Having a child to follow after your
husband’s name was a must.
(answers may vary)
Correct! How about the others?
(varied answers form the students)
Very good! So, during the time the story
was set, couples should have a child to
continue the man’s lineage.

Lastly, let’s hear your answers on the

question number 3. Who would like to
share his/ her answers?
(varied answers form the students)
Very good! So, your answer depends on
your own beliefs as a person. And that
shows that all of us here have different
beliefs regarding one thing, and that's
what we believe is right.

4. Abstraction
In today's discussion, we will be
analyzing a short story entitled 'The

Wedding Dance' by Amador Daguio.

Here, we will explore the beliefs and
convictions of a particular tribe and how
its people dealt with them.

So, who are the characters of the story?

Awiyao, Lumnay, and Madulimay.
(answers may vary)
Very good! So, the major characters of
the story are…
 Lumnay - Awiyao’s former wife who is
still in love with him, despite the fact
he married another.
 Awiyao - The lead male in the story
who loves Lumnay, but left her
because she didn’t produce children
for him.
 Madulimay - Awiyao’s new, younger
wife, with whom he hopes to have
children.

Now, let us discuss the plot of the story

and find out the beliefs and convictions
being portrayed by the characters in the
story.

First, let us have the exposition. Anyone,

kindly read.
EXPOSITION - The story begins at
night in a mountain village in the
Philippines, where Awiyao has just

So, in the beginning of the story, the

Next, let’s have the Rising Action. Kindly

read.
RISING ACTION - Outside, the
villagers are dancing in celebration of
the wedding. Awiyao leaves to try
and comfort Lumnay. He offers her
many items of the life that they built
together. Lumnay refuses them and
clings to Awiyao, wishing he would
stay.
In this part, the characters start to have
conflicts. Because of the conviction that
couples should have a child to continue
man’s linage. Awiyao have to marry
another woman that can give him a child
because the woman she truly love
cannot bare ones.

Next, let’s have the climax of the story.

Kindly read.
CLIMAX - Awiyao finally leaves to re-
join the wedding and Lumnay runs
into the hills.
So, due to the conviction that the couple
should have a child to continue man’s
linage, the two people who truly loved
each other let each other go and follow
their traditions even that’s hard for them
and that’s against of their will.

Next, let’s have the falling action.

Anyone, kindly read.
FALLING ACTION - Lumnay sits on
the side of the mountain overlooking

changed. She has a sense of

desperation, isolation, and
worthlessness.
In this part of the story, Lumnay already
accepted her fate by staying away of
their tribe.

Lastly, let us have the resolution. Kindly

read.
RESOLUTION - The reader is left not
knowing what will become of
Lumnay.
The story ended not giving more details
about what had happened to Lumnay
and on the relationship of her and
Awiyao.

Now, let us have the theme of the story.

Anyone, kindly read.
If you truly love a person, you must
let them be happy.
Have you ever heard the saying “if you
love someone, let them go”?
Yes, Sir.
The story of Lumnay and Awiyao
wrestles with this difficult issue. Despite
how upsetting it is to Lumnay, she must
let Awiyao go, not only because of their
culture, but also because it is clear that
he will not be happy without a child.

Is everything clear about the story, “The

Wedding Dance”?
Yes, Sir.
Do you have any questions or
clarifications?

7. Valuing
"Love can be complicated by traditions and beliefs,
sometimes leading us to make choices based on our
convictions rather than our feelings."

Who wants to share his or her idea about

this quotation?
(varied answers from the students)
This quotation highlights the complexity
of love when it intersects with cultural
traditions and personal beliefs. In many

cultures, societal norms and expectations

heavily influence decisions regarding
relationships and marriage. Individuals

to tradition or fulfill certain expectations.
As a result, they might prioritize their
convictions over their emotions, even if it
means sacrificing their personal
happiness.
