Estimating the Cost of Tiling a Circular Area
Objective:
To estimate the total cost of tiling a circular area, considering factors such as the radius, cost of
tiles, labor, transportation.
Instructions:
1. Draw a Circle: Students start by drawing a circle in the designated field with the given radius.
They should use appropriate tools or measurements to ensure accuracy.
2. Measure the Radius: Confirm and record the measured radius of the circular area.
3. Calculate Area of the Circle: Use the formula for the area of a circle, A = πr², where "r" is the
radius. This will give the total area to be covered.
4. Estimate Number of Tiles: Based on the measurement of each tile, calculate the number of
tiles needed to cover the entire circular area. This involves dividing the total area by the area of
one tile.
5. Determine Tile Cost: Multiply the number of tiles needed by the cost of each tile. This gives
the total cost of tiles required.
6. Consider Additional Costs: Factor in other costs such as labor, transportation, and any
miscellaneous expenses associated with the tiling process.
7. Calculate Total Cost: Sum up the costs of tiles, labor, transportation, and any other relevant
costs to find the total estimated cost of tiling the circular area.
8. Present Findings: Each group can present their findings, including the estimated cost, to the
class. This allows for comparison and discussion between the two groups working on the same
activity.

Given:

 Radius= 2 m
 Dimension of each tile= 35 cm × 35 cm
 Labor cost= Tk. 12500
 Transportation cost= Tk. 10000
 Cost of each tile= Tk. 350
