Firstly the researcher wishes to thank all family members for understanding and cooperation
with him also for Released him from household chores and assistance him psychologically and
financially.

Secondly the researcher wishes to thank residents of the village Golden Grove for responding
and also took time off from their occupied schedule of the assistance in filling out the
questionnaire, which was the most important part of the School Based Assessment.

Finally the researcher would like to pass out a special thanks to his subject teacher who guided
him in every step until at the conclusion of this School Based Assessment.

INTRODUCTION
The researcher will be carrying out in the large area called Golden Grove. Golden Grove is one
of the large village located on the East Bank demerara, it has approximately 16,000 to 18,000
residents. Golden Grove has been considered to be a peaceful and quiet area. Golden Grove
also has a mix ethnic population. It is within thirty-five (35) minutes from the capital city
‘Georgetown’

The reason why this community was chosen is that the researcher lives at the community and
the researcher has a middle class standard of living and also his parent are very well known to
the residents of Golden Grove which means that data collection would not be difficult to
record, drug abuse has been increasing and needs immediate attention to dealt with.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
What are the causes and consequence of drug abuse in the community of Golden Grove?

REASON FOR SELECTING THE AREA FOR STUDY

1. Golden grove is one of the major communities that Drug abuse occurs and is affecting
the homes of family.

2. The researcher notices that curiosity, social pressure and addiction are the three main
causes of drug in Golden grove.

3. The use of Drugs is rising so rapid in this large area which is not healthy for a good
standard of living.

4. As for the child/children of a drug abuser in the family. The mind and body are being
affected by it.

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION
Questionnaire refers to a set of questions on a form, submitted for replies that can be used to
analyze for valuable information’s or in order to collect statistical information.

This questionnaire refers to a part of collecting data and has a number of advantages.

1. It necessitates a good amount of time for the respondents to Completed the


questionnaire.

2. All questions expected to have an answer to it.

3. Signatures of yours are not necessary of this questionnaire.

4. Residents are expected to answer question with kindness, honesty and also loyalty.

PROCEDURES FOR DATA COLLECTION

There was five street within the village which the researcher had shared four questionnaires to
one street two on the left side and two to the right side to two males and two females for each
street.

The researcher distributed twenty (20) questionnaires the residents of Golden grove and
twenty (20) questionnaires were collected.

The researcher had given the residents two days to fill up the questionnaires which was on the
28th 0ctober, 2019 and was collected around Wednesday 11:03 pm of the 30 th October, 2019.

Analysis and interpretation of Data


Fig.1 (Histogram) Showing the main type drugs that are abused in Golden Grove. From the
graph it can be seen that 40% of the respondents agreed that tobacco is the main type of drug
that is being abused 25% of the respondents view marijuana and cocaine has the same highest
drug abused by members of the Golden Grove community while 10% of the respondents said
heroin.

Fig.2 shows a (pie chart) displaying the factors that cause persons to abuse drug in the Golden
Grove community. From the chart it can be seen that stress has 30%, Peer Pressure has 20%,
Curiosity has 15% also low self, esteem has 15% and lack of jobs has 20%.

Fig.3 (Bar graph) showing the main effects of drug abused .UN, sound mind have 15% and
Damage to the human organs has 35%, Death has 25% also Financial instability has 25%.

Statement of findings
The major causes of drug abused are stress, peer pressure and also lack of jobs that mostly
occur in the community. The researcher observed the effect of drug abused are Damage to the
human organs, Death and Financial instability, this can even harm the children from being
educated.

Task-9 Recommendations and Implementation Strategy


In order to promote and maintain a drug free environment in Golden Grove, the resident, the
police and the government all have to play vital role in eliminating/reducing many of the
problem fare by the community. Another important recommendation is the need for more
recreational activities for the youths.

The researcher would create a sport club for the youth in the community of Golden Grove so
they can participate in sports. This would take they mind off of drugs in the community and let
them focus on school and physical activates.
