Answers to Questions (20 points)

Q1. Because they are created by the interference of light waves which are
reflected between a convex lens and a flat surface. Since the incident light wave is
perpendicular to the convex lens and flat surface, the interference pattern is
symmetrical around the central point where the convex lens and the surface
contact, thereby the rings are circular.Physical Lab Experiment 2023

Q2. The wave nature of light is demonstrated in the experiment. Because the
interference that makes Newton’s rings is created by the superposition of
light waves with different phases, which is a characteristic of wave.
Q3. Because there are constructive and destructive interference determined
by the multiple relation between the path differences and wavelengths of
different interfering light waves. When the reflected waves interfere
constructively, they create bright fringes; When the reflected waves
interfere destructively, they create dark fringes.
Q4. Because the two yellow components emitted by a sodium lamp have
very close wavelengths (both about 589 nm) and using single color light
source can make the Newton’s ring clearer, which is helpful for observation.
