SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS :

I. A conditional sentence is a sentence that has an if-clause which states a condition and
another clause that states what happens as a result of the condition. The form of the
verb in the if-clause depends on whether the condition is present and impossible, future
and possible, or past and unreal.
II. When a present, unreal condition is expressed, the simple past form of the verb is used
in the if-clause; the verbs would or could with the base form of the verb is used in the
independent clause. Would and could are in the subjunctive mood.
Example:
If it rained, I would stay at home.
III. When a future possible condition is expressed, the if-clause uses the simple present
tense; the independent clause uses the simple future tense.
Example:
If the population grows bigger, there will be more demand for supplies.
IV. Use had, could, or were after wish when the condition is present and not attainable. This
form of the verb is in the subjunctive mood.
Examples:
I wish I had wings so I could fly.
I wish I were in another place right now.
I wish I could travel to so many cities right now.
V. The verbs can or will with the base form of the verb is used in the clause after the verb
