Note: The ECM diagnoses certain failures in the circuit of the solenoid
circuit. The ECM will detect a diagnostic code when an invalid
combination of opens and/or grounds exist. This diagnostic code is
displayed on the message display. See the diagnostic codes in the
Troubleshooting section of this manual.

The ARC purge solenoid valve is not controlled by the brake ECM. The
ARC purge solenoid is an output of the steering bleed control module.
No diagnostic codes are available for this solenoid. When the ARC
purge solenoid is energized, the accumulator pressure will be released.

The Traction Control valve (TCS) is mounted inside the rear of the left
frame rail or the rear of the rear frame rail. The solenoid is mounted
on the valve.
The selector solenoid valve is an output of the brake ECM. The selector
solenoid valve is used in order to select the left parking brake or the
right parking brake. The solenoids have a resistance of approximately
25 Ohms.
The brake ECM energizes the selector solenoid valve with + Battery
voltage (24 Volts).

The rear axle diverter solenoid is also referred to as the final drive
bypass solenoid. The solenoid is located on the final drive bypass

This solenoid is driven by the rear axle relay based on input from the
ECM. When the solenoid is NOT energized, oil will flow to the final
drives and to the differential. When the solenoid IS energized, oil will
flow the differential. When the rear axle relay energizes the solenoid, a
solenoid status input is sent to the ECM through wire K878-WH in
order to indicate the state of the solenoid.

The rear axle supply solenoid is located on the priority valve housing.
This solenoid is used to direct or divert lubrication oil flow to the rear
axle oil pump motor. This allows the ECM to control the oil supply to
the pump according to specific machines conditions.
This solenoid is driven by the rear axle relay based on input from the
ECM. When the solenoid is NOT energized, oil will be supplied to the
rear axle lube pump. When the solenoid IS energized, oil will be
diverted from the lube pump and return to the tank. When the rear
axle relay energizes the solenoid, a solenoid status input is sent to the
ECM through wire J886-WH in order to indicate the state of the
solenoid.

The high speed cooling fan solenoid is controlled by the ECM in order
to cool the lubrication oil for the rear axle. The solenoid is capable of
proportional operation, however, in this application, the solenoid is
used as an ON or OFF output. When the solenoid is NOT energized,
the cooling fan will operate at maximum speed (approximately 1200
rpm). When the solenoid IS energized, the cooling fan will operate at
minimum speed (approximately 200 rpm)
The ECM will activate diagnostic codes for this solenoid when abnormal
conditions are detected. The diagnostic codes are listed in the
Troubleshooting section of this manual.

The engine cooling fan solenoid is mounted on the fan drive pump.
The ECM will provide a proportional output to the solenoid in order to
change the speed of the engine cooling fan. The ECM determines the
current output for the solenoid based on the machine systems
temperature information that is communicated from other machine
controls over the Cat Data Link. The ECM monitors the temperatures of
the jacket water, the aftercooler coolant and the transmission oil. The
ECM also considers machine ground speed in order to determine the
appropriate output current level for the solenoid.
The ECM will activate diagnostic codes for this solenoid when abnormal
conditions are detected. The diagnostic codes are listed in the
Troubleshooting section of this manual.

The ECM controls the brake cooling oil pump operation by sending a
proportional output signal to the brake cooling oil pump solenoid. The
brake cooling oil pump supplies oil to the truck brakes for cooling. The
ECM will use the frequency input information from the brake pump
speed sensor along with the status information for the brake
temperature, the status of the brakes and machine ground speed in
order to control the output current to the solenoid which determines
the speed of the brake pump.
The ECM will activate diagnostic codes for this solenoid when abnormal
conditions are detected. The diagnostic codes are listed in the
Troubleshooting section of this manual.
