CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM

Introduction

Having stray dogs and cats are also a wide-ranging problem that we’re

keep encountering up until now. It is becoming alarming to many people

specially to those who specifically take care or have a dogs and cats themselves.

Not only that, but it is also pretty concerning on how the situation affects a lot

of animals but specifically the dogs and cats. According to PETA, the estimated

number is over 70 million homeless dogs and cats around. Moreover, the

attention that this problem needed does not meet its expectation and it’s

becoming less and less relevant to the society. Many are starving, sick, and

homeless. This situation brings our concern because we, ourselves are disturbed

by the situation as a dog and cat owners. A lot of things push us to create this

study and one of it is the increasing population of the stray dogs and cats at

Bahayang Pilipino Sabang Lipa City. We’ve observed how a lot of these

animals are having a hard time living in this society.

It became the focus of this study because we wanted to make changes

and improvement about the situation. We wanted to help the situation of the

homeless dogs and cats, provide better world, and bring hope to a lot of stray

animals. We are planning to formally interview the people at Bahayang

Pilipino Sabang Lipa City to ask about their opinion to this certain topic. With

this interview, they can help us and the stray dogs and cats to provide a lot more

useful, important, and a reliable study about this issue. This study is our way of

strengthening the attention that this certain issue needed, to help the stray

animals specifically the dogs and cats. This paper will provide the information

about how hard it is for the stray dogs and cats to live a peaceful and secured

life as well as how does it affect a lot of aspects in our society specially us,

humans. This qualitative paper can influence the perspective of a lot of people

about this topic and they might have the courage to started treating these stray

animals better, donate necessities or even just pay attention so we can make an

action. Helping stray dogs and cats will also improve the environmental issue

and it can cause a lot of good things, such as, it can lessen the overpopulation of

these animals in Bahayang Pilipino Village Sabang Lipa City.

Justification of the Study

The study aims to distinguish the supposed knowledge and the attitude

of the Bahayang Pilipino Residents at Barangay Sabang of the City of Lipa

towards the issue addressing stray dogs and cats.

This study will seek the following questions specifically.

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the

following aspects:

1.1 Age,

1.2 Gender,

1.3 and Strand.

2. How often do you encounter stray dogs and cats in your

neighborhood or community?

3. What concerns or issues do you associate with the presence of

stray dogs and cats in your area?

4. How do you think local authorities should address the stray dogs

and cats’ population to ensure the safety and well-being of both

humans and animals?

5. What is the level of knowledge of grade 11 students at Asian

Institute of Computer Studies Lipa about stray dogs and cats?

Importance of the Study

The importance of our study is conducted to give the stray dogs and stray

cats a good life. Our study aims to lessen the stray dogs and stray cats by giving

them a shelter, foods, and healthcare. The study on stray dogs and cats serves as

a critical call to action, urging society to confront the widespread issue of

homeless animals. By delving into the challenges faced by these animals and

examining community attitudes and perceptions, the study fosters a deeper

understanding of the problem and encourages collective responsibility. Through

interviews and surveys, it engages with the community, empowering individuals

to voice their concerns and contribute to potential solutions. Furthermore, by

exploring the role of local authorities and advocating for more effective

interventions, the study seeks to drive policy changes that prioritize the welfare

of both humans and animals. Ultimately, by raising awareness, fostering

community engagement, and informing policy decisions, the study aims to pave

the way for a more compassionate and sustainable approach to addressing the

plight of stray dogs and cats.

Scope and Limitation and Delimitation

The study focused on the supposed knowledge and attitudes of the residents or

the people in Bahayang Pilipino Village on the life of stray dogs and cats in

their village.

1. The respondents of the study are the people in Bahayang Pilipino village and

the people who love dogs and cats.

2. The study was conducted at Bahayang Pilipino Village Sabang during this

year 2024.

3. The target number of respondents for this study was fifty respondents.

4. The age of the respondents ranges from sixteen and above years old.

Definition of Terms

For an accurate understanding of the terms used in this study, different

terms are operationally and conceptually defined herein.

PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the

largest animal rights organization in the world, and PETA entities have more

than 9 million members and supporters globally.

Grounded theory - an inductive approach in which a theory is

developed based on data. This is the opposite of the traditional hypothesis-

deductive research approaches where hypotheses are formulated and are then

tried to be proved or disproved.
