External Influences on Human Behaviour

The field theory by Kurt Lewin is indeed correct in its ideas and applications.

Environments and external factors influence a person’s behavior. The development of a person is

the invention of the collaboration between innate dispositions and lifetime experiences (Braisby,

Nick, & Gellatly, Angus eds., 2005). The behavior of a person is mostly geared towards a

particular objective or goal and its precise purpose matters the greatest in the presentation of

individual behavior. According to Kurt Lewin’s Psychological Field Theory - The Psychology

Notes Headquarters, (2021), there are several factors that determine human beings likelihood of

engage in a particular behavior external factors include social support, media such as public

service announcements, economic, socio-cultural and political factors, environmental stimuli,

biological factors, the health care system, and social laws and regulations.

In environmental psychology, the factors examine the transactions between people and

their external surroundings. In the transactions, people modify the environment, and that

environment transforms their behavior and experiences. For instance, social media is having a

significant impact on people especially the young both positively and negatively (Braisby,

Nick, & Gellatly, Angus eds., 2005). Kurt Lewin in field theory widened the scope of

psychology by illustrating that human behavior is the product not just of personal attributes but

also of other forces within people but also the complex dynamic environment individuals inhabit

(Braisby, Nick, & Gellatly, Angus eds., 2005). Group dynamics is used by Kurt Lewin to show

that groups have a life of their own and that they influence the people in them and vice versa.

The field theory contends that all people occupy a living space which consists of both internal

and external factors including other human beings. He laid the foundation for modern research

into human relationships.

Leadership is clearly understood following the theory and psychology understands the

people as social beings. No man can live alone on earth they need the help of each other, and

one’s activity influences another directly or indirectly. Personal and social experiences are

significant factors that contribute to the development of any human being.
