I. OBJECTIVES
Electromagnet
A. Learning Tasks
B. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of a simple DC Circuit and their
relationship between electricity and magnetism in electromagnets
The learners should be able to propose an unusual tool using
A. Performance electromagnets that is useful for home, school, and community.
Standards
The learners should be able to determine the effects of changing the
C. Learning number or type of components in a circuit
Competencies/Objectives Specific Objectives:
Write the LC code for At the end of the activity the students are expected to do the following
each with75% accuracy:
a. Inter that electricity can be used to produce magnets.
b. Design an experiment to determine the factors that affect the strength
of the electromagnet.

1. ELICIT What is electricity?
Reviewing the previous
lesson or presenting the new Electricity is defined as the presence of charge, which is better thought of as
lesson the flow of particles with charge (e.g. electrons flowing through a wire).

Can you give me some example?

- gold, silver

2. ENGAGE
1. Establishing a purpose
for the lesson

2. Presenting
examples/instances of
the new lesson

Electromagnet

What is an electromagnet?
- It is a temporary magnet that uses electricity to function
3. EXPLORE ELECTROMAGNET MODEL
1. Discussing new
concepts and Science Skills: Observing Inferring
practicing new skills
You Will Need:
#1
 1 battery 3 volts
2. Discussing new
concepts and  Large iron nails
practicing new skills  Electrical wire (300 cm long)
#2  Pins
 Thumbtacks

Note: Make sure that the iron nail does not have any rust. Be careful in handing
material.

1.Make an electromagnet by winding the electrical wire around the large nail.
2. Connect both ends of the wire to a dry cell.
3. Test the electromagnet by placing some pins and thumbtacks near the nail. Does
the nail attract the pins and thumbtacks?
4. Loosen the coil of wire in the electromagnet and find out how many metals are
attract to the nail. Now wind more coils properly. Which setup attract materials?
5. Add more dry cells to the electromagnet . make sure you connect the dry cells
properly . which setup attract more metals?
6. Change the nail into a smaller one. which set up attract more metals?
4. EXPLAIN
1. Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative
Assessment 3)
