Mr. Vicent has been used to sit on a computer for a very long period of time. Now
when he is not seated on a computer, he is always on his phone. As a result he
strains his eyes a lot to see objects that at a distance far away so in classes he is
always nearer in order to see clearly the chalk board writings . Mr.Vicent thinks he is
being be witched. With relevant illustration, help Mr Vicent to know his challenge
related to his sight. Also show him how it can be settled. { Relevant illustrations } will

S.3 students of St.Joseph's ss- kakindu are planning for a geography your to kigezi
highlands in south western uganda next year [2024]. Their teacher tasked them list
down some of the materials they will need in order to prepare in time. The illustration
shown below is one of the compulsory equipments they will need
Teacher got concerned about every child mentioning the above equipment. As a
S.3 student of physics, help the teacher to understand the importance of the
equipment.

Situational Item 1
(You write responses in the gaps on question paper).
S.1, S.2 and S.3 students of St.Joseph's ss -Kakindu had a tour in one of
compulsory Science subjects towards the middle of July 2023. After the
tour in the evening their teacher decided to take these amazing children to
one of the shores of Lake victoria in kampala while at scene, a group of
students started throwing stones in water as the way of refreshing their
minds. When ever a stone was thrown in the water, at the point of
disturbance some thing which looks like heap of water was seen to spread
from that point onwards. This group of students was amazed. Meanwhile
they observed endless heaps of water from the far ends of the lake
approaching them all the time on the surface of the lake. These heaps
looked like the one below
Figure one.
Task: You are required to write to the children about the issue. You will do
so by carefully responding to missing gaps in the article below using the
support material in form graphical reprentation of a wave.
Figure two
In this
message to S.1 and S.2,tell them that what saw on the surface of lake victoria is a
transverse wave which is __________________________ in nature. Therefore it
transfer energy from one point to another by means of vibration of particles. It is
called so because it's particles vibrate_______________________ to the direction of
propagation of the wave. On such a wave, there are very many particles that are
vibrating. Because of vibration of particles, the water surface acts as
the___________________ for particles to transfer energy. Thus the vibration of
particles forces surface of water to be___________ up and down for energy to be
transferred. Thus water is needed as
a_______________________to transfer energy from far ends of the lake. Tell them
that on figure two, two particles are said to be in phase if they are travelling in the
____________________direction and are at the same __________________ from the rest
Therefore on the water heaps that the children saw which looks like figure 2,
particles at point X and those at__________ are in phase while those at X and P
are_________of phase. Again on figure two, the horizontal line is best described
12I WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS YEAR ²⁰²⁴
as________________.and the amplitude of the wave in figure two is equal to
__________________metres. It's wavelength is equal to 8 metres. Inform the children
that if wave was moving at a velocity V= 80m/s then the frequency of wave they
saw is equal to f = ____________(Hertz). Encourage the children that water wave
they saw can be studies directly in the physics laboratory using a _______________
tank.which looks like the one in the figure below.
Stress to them it is instrument that really show that water waves produced by the
dipper, observed on the screen by the help of the light from the________________
.These wave patterns move at right_____________ to the direction of propagation.
By correctly filling the missing fields, this is the right article to settle the hot
argument between your young sisters and brothers of S.1 and S.2 at beach.

Situational Item 2.
During the recent months of September, October 2023 alot accidents in Uganda
were reported by different media houses. A recent accident was aired on NTV ,
BUKEDDE, NBS, TOPTV BBS and many others including Radio stations in Uganda.
This was all over the country because it engaged and claimed the life of famous
tycoon business man APOLLO NYEGAMEHE a.k.a APONYE the owner of Most
buildings in kampala such as Standard Mega supermarket, Maize millers in
Mubende. Many others people have lost their lives. There are a lot of injured
people bedridden in hospitals in Uganda. In the figure below A traffic investigator
is analyzing a crush scene of the most recent accidents along Kampala- Masala
road.
Figure 1 shows accident scene and figure 2 show one of the survivors in the
hospital.
Figure 1 shows a heavy trailer which was involved in collision with a stationary
van. After investigations, she reported her findings as follows:
Trailer and it's contents had mass M1 =3000kg and it was traveling at speed.
U1 = 72km/hr , just before collision.
The survivor in hospital as Shown in figure 2 told the media people the
following;
The truck driver was not putting on seat belt and he was chatting on the
phone so he was severally injured as he was thrown out of the truck
through front window screen
The BUKEDDE Media team wish to know whether the collision was elastic
or otherwise. The Velocity with which the two vehicles moved with after
collision, they also want to be informed of possible outcomes of
Some of them needed clarification about why the brakes were not able
to stop a heavy trailer. As a S.3 students of physics use knowledge of
momentum, linear motion and collision to write an essay to the traffic
investigator which she will use to answer the questions arising from
the media journalists. A journalist from NBS wanted a comment about
acceleration or deceleration of the two vehicles after collision. Help
the investigator to know the question asked and comment on it
correctly.
Situational Item 3.
Finland and Japan through their embassies in Uganda announces full
scholarship to Ugandan individuals aged between 14 and 19 years. They say
that these individuals must be both Male and Female who are at Secondary
level of education. Minimum level wanted is S.3, and applicants must be in line
with physics. They give a reason that there is field of physics that has been
discovered and there are few individuals studying it available yet there are alot
of discoveries that are yet to be done. This field is astronomy. They list
benefits of this scholarship as follows;
Successful candidate will get a free Visa, air ticket to Finland and Japan to
and fro
This candidate will be paid $15000 every month, Free transportation while
studying, free accommodation during the study of the course, free medical
care for the time to be spent in these nations, free recreational service,
part time job in days when the lectures are off. $500 will be sent to the
family of candidate every week.
The course of study is to last for 5 years and at end of it, all immediate
family relatives will invited to Japan and Finland for Graduation ceremony
of their child.
Task; You are one of many students that applied and passed through. You
received a congulatory message inviting you to Finland or Japan embassy
to start the process of preparing to go for your studies in physics of space
( Astronomy).
Support material:
Knowledge of Stars and galaxies.
