POST-DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
I. Answer the following prompts:
1. How is the turbidity of urine related to its specific gravity?

- Urine should first be centrifuged and the supernatant used for specific gravity
determination since turbidity of the urine might artificially affect the specific gravity
(usually increase it).

2. Discuss how a nephron performs its function.

- The nephron is the kidney's fundamental anatomical and functional unit. It filters blood
and controls the concentration of water and soluble chemicals like sodium ions.

3. Discuss how urine is formed.

The nephrons of the kidneys filter unwanted substances from the blood and produce urine
to excrete them. Urine is formed through a process of glomerular filtration where
substances move from blood to glomerular capsule, tubular reabsorption where
substances move from renal tubules into blood of peritubular capillaries, and tubular
secretion where substances from the blood within the peritubular capillary are transported
into the renal tubule.
