CMPS 209 – Computing for Business.

• Nowadays, computer-based system generates lots of information

§ Industry
4.0 connects the production and products with intelligent information and
communication systems.
§ The Information system 4.0 is the prerequisite for the systematic implementation of the
linked digital world «Industry 4.0».
§ Different subsystems like CRM, which were mere static software products and often only
synchronized overnight, have to be connected to the integrated information landscape to
provide all data in real time.
§ Not only does Industry 4.0 bring new business models and processes, but also a change of
the entire working world. Work hours and pay models will be changed and thus change
entire professional fields.

§ What are IS?

§ An information system (IS) is an interconnected set of components


used to collect, store, process and transmit data and digital
information. At its core, it is a collection of hardware, software,
data, people and processes that work together to transform raw data
into useful information.

§ When was the last time you used an IS?

§ Many businesses use information technology to complete and


manage their operations, interact with their consumers, and stay
ahead of their competition. Some companies today are completely
built on information technology, like eBay, Amazon, Alibaba, and
Google.

§ Benefits?

§ There are many benefits from the presence of information system


applications in the field of education, including convenience. The
convenience offered not only saves time but also saves paper.
Therefore, this example of an information system is very useful and
widely used in everyday life.

§ You went to ZARA (X branch) and you really liked an item but did not find your size.

photography, a technology that it invented.
§ This strategic failure was the direct cause of
Kodak’s decades-long decline as digital
photography destroyed its film-based business

§ Facebook abandoned an experiment after two artificially intelligent programs appeared to be chatting to each
other in a strange language only they understood (2017).

§ Days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's understanding of artificial
intelligence (AI) was limited, the social media company has reportedly shut down one of its AI systems
because "things got out of hand."
