𝟐
𝑛 12
For 12 teams, Teams in upper half = = =6
2 2
This means there will be 6 teams in upper half and 6 teams in lower half.

 Odd Number of Teams (1,3,5,……..)

𝐧+𝟏
▪ Teams in upper half will be
𝟐
𝐧−𝟏
▪ Teams in lower half will be
𝟐

➢ For 13 teams
𝐧+𝟏 𝟏𝟑+𝟏 𝟏𝟒
▪ Teams in upper half = = =7
𝟐 𝟐 𝟐

𝐧−𝟏 𝟏𝟑−𝟏 𝟏𝟐
▪ Teams in lower half = = =6
𝟐 𝟐 𝟐

Next power of two from Total number of teams Number of Byes

total no. of teams
8 7 1

16 11 5

32 21 11

Total number of teams N = 13 (Odd Number)

𝐧+𝟏 𝟏𝟑+𝟏 𝟏𝟒
▪ Teams in upper half = = =7
𝟐 𝟐 𝟐

𝐧−𝟏 𝟏𝟑−𝟏 𝟏𝟐
▪ Teams in lower half = = =6
𝟐 𝟐 𝟐
2,4,8,16,32….
Number of Byes: 16-13 = 3
Number of Matches = N-1 =13-1 = 12
