New Electronic OLSS

Department for Promotion of Distributor HR Development
Construction & Mining Equipment Marketing Division 1
New Electronic OLSS
NC(Lever stroke control), TVC(PC Horse power control) and CO functions are
controlled fully electrically by EPC valve in the New Electronic OLSS.
PC850-8E0 Three input signals are sent to Pump
controller.
①Pump pressure
②Jet sensor differential pressure
③Engine speed

Pump discharge amount is controlled

electrically by EPC valve.
Control current to EPC valve is output
signal from Pump controller basing on
above input signals.
CO function, CO cancel, E-Mode setting are
controlled electrically without any special
valves.
Horse power of Work equipment is
reserved independently from Fan Pump
absorption horse power, so no influence for
Work equipment speed free from
temperatures.

2
★Pump controller makes commands to increase or decrease Pump discharge
amount basing on Logic ( Algorithm ) as below.
・PQ curve ( PC, power constant control = horse Power Calculation )
・Lever stroke ( NC, negative control control = LS control = Lever Stroke )
・Maximum oil flow amount
・CO, cut-off function or CO cancel

Increase current to EPC → EPC output pressure increases

→ Pump discharge amount increases
Decrease current to EPC → EPC output pressure decreases
→ Pump discharge amount decreases

★Pump controller calculates Hydraulic Fan absorption Horse Power , and decides
the Engine output Horse Power by adding Work equipment Horse Power. The 2nd
throttle signal is sent to Engine controller .

(The lower oil or water temperature becomes, the less entire horse power is consumed. As
temperature rises, entire horse power is consumed more according to increased Cooling Fan
speed. Therefore work equipment performance doesn’t change depending on oil and coolant
temperaturse.)

★P- Mode (Power mode) and E-Mode (economy mode) are selected
on the machine monitor function. PC800, 850-8E0 & R1
Have P0 and P1. P0 cancels CO and CO is ON for P1.
★Cut off function (ON & OFF) is controlled by EPC current.
★E-Mode is set 4 stage on the machine monitor function.
Once Controller is failed, no current to EPC is provided and it makes minimum
pump discharge and so machine speed becomes very slow. In this case,
Emergency pump drive switch can be used for emergency drive of the machine :
Emergency pump drive switch
( In case of Failure code E0E or E07 of new User codes )

See more details on Operation manual 3-38.

PC800-8 Jet sensor

Differential pressure between

NCA(Yellow) and
NCB)(blue)→stroke change
→converted to voltage .
HALL IC

6
★ Neutral circuit ( same as conventional OLSS )
・Higher pressure side : Pt
Pt (Yellow = NCA ) is jet from orifice upper side of Jet sensor.
・Lower pressure side : Pd
On the other hand Lower pressure ( blue = NCB) drained to tank is
introduced to Jet sensor.

★Jet sensor differential pressure = between NCA and NCB

・Detecting the oil flow amount in neutral circuit by differential pressure.
・Large pressure =Lever in neutral or Lever stroke small
→reduce Pump discharge amount NC function
・Small pressure= Lever is operated fully → increase Pump discharge amount

★ Jet sensor differential pressure sensor

・For electrical NC function , differential pressure → stroke → voltage
・Controller detects lever stroke electrically, and decides VC valve output (EPC
current )
.・According to EPC current Pump angle or discharge amount is controlled.
→Electronic NC control
( In the conventional OLSS Pt and Pd are sent to NC valve connected with hydraulic hose. NC
function is controlled hydraulically. )
7
Jet Sensor Differential Pressure Sensor

・Spring is pushed by the piston which gets the differential pressure

between NCA and NCB.
・This change of stroke is converted to voltage by HALL IC element.
8
★ Jet sensor differential pressure
sensor
・It has totally 4 pins , Power line
(RED), Ground line (BLACK), and 2
output signal lines (GLEEN)
・It is produced with HALL IC
element, and has two output lines
Connected
due to adjustment when shipping.
So 2 lines are connected in the harness on
the machine.(Refer to photos)

・ Ph is higher pressure between Pa and Pr selected by shuttle valve, and flows into
Ps.(Ph is usually Pa when some lever is operated.)
Maximum spool
・When levers are in neutral, Pr ( = about 3MPa ) is selected and Ps becomes about stroke pushed by
1.5MPa when balancing .(EPC current is about 280mA in case of PC800-8.) spring fully

・Trapezoid plate
No.5 (green )
connected with servo
piston moves to LH
at first.
・Gray spool inside
VC valve is pushed
down along taper of
Trapezoid plate
No.5.(Refer to slide

・Finally VC valve
spool stops or
returns to the same
relative position
between yellow and
gray.
・Servo piston and
swash plate angle
are also stopped at
certain position.

・Servo piston moves to LH due to Ph=Ps ( Pump angle becomes minimum.)

・Then balancing at Ph : Ps = 2:1(area ratio 1:2) or hits the stopper Ph=Ps.
12
Maximum angle (EPC current = 584mA)
Yellow spool is pushed
up by EPC output
pressure against spring
force(1).

(1) When EPC current becomes max.(about 560mA),maximum output pressure

Minimum spool
(SE1) comes into VC valve. (2)Ph oil starts to go into Servo by VC valve stroke pushed by Pe
movement. Ps pressure is drained to tank. 13

・Trapezoid plate
No.5 (green )
connected with servo
piston moves to RH
at first.
・Gray spool inside
VC valve is pushed

・Finally VC valve
spool stops or

・Servo piston and
swash plate angle
are also stopped at
certain position.

・Ph is kept Pump pressure. Ps is drained to case and Servo piston moves to
RH(Pump angle becomes maximum.).
・Then balancing at Ph : Ps = 2:1(area ratio 1:2) or hits the stopper Ps=0.
14
Servo piston balanced (Large : Small=2:1)

・ Trapezoid plate No.5 (green ) connected with servo piston moves at first.→ Gray spool inside
VC valve moves along taper of Trapezoid plate.
・Ph pressure partly goes into Ps, partly is drained to tank.
・When Ph:Ps ratio becomes 2:1 (area ratio = 1:2 ), servo piston is balanced and stops.
15
Servo piston balanced (Large : Small=2:1)

When Ph: Ps becomes 2:1 (area ratio = 1:2 ), Servo piston is

balanced and stops in any place between Min. and Max. positions
according to EPC current.
16
★VC valve movement

① EPC valve output pressure(SE1)changes

→ VC valve outer yellow spool is pushed

VC valve
② Relative position between inner and outer changes output
→VC valve output pressure (Ps) changes

Servo
③ Servo piston moves→ Pump angle changes piston
movement

④ Trapezoid plate No.5 (green ) connected with servo piston

moves→grey inner spool moves along trapezoid plate

Follow up
⑤ Relative position between outer yellow spool and inner & balance
grey one→ VC valve output pressure (Ps) changes

⑥ Balancing at Ph:Ps=2:1 → Servo piston stops 17

★According to EPC current Servo piston is balanced at several kinds of
position from minimum to maximum. Pressures balance is Ph : Ps = 2 : 1
( Or current is always changing, so servo piston is moving with balancing)
★On the actual measurement, even the Lever is in neutral we confirmed
Ph : Ps = 3.3MPa : 1.65MPa Minimum and maximum positions are balanced
or Servo piston hits the stoppers. Min. is 1.65 to 3.3 (stopper), Control pressure
and Max. is ½ of pump pressure to zero(stopper).
→ We can confirm if VC valve is working well by these values.

Flow of Control Pressure

Fan pump supplies pressure oil to Self

Pressure Reducing valve and it is
reduced and Control pressure, 3.24
MPa is generated.

This Control pressure is provided to the

EPC valve(top) to control Fan pump
swash plate angle and also to the EPC
valve(lower) for VC valve control of Main
pump when all levers are in neutral
position. Because Main pump pressure
is low, 1.6 MPa even when Engine
speed is full and the Control pressure,
3.24 MPa opens the shuttle valve and
flows into VC valve as the source
pressure.

19
Servo Control Pressure

Pump controller sends command

current to EPC valve and output
pressure, Pe goes out proportionally.
The VC valve sleeve is lifted up or
pushed down proportionally retracting
spring.

The higher one, Control or Main pump

pressures is introduced to VC valve as
the power source. The Servo control
pressure makes higher or lower in the
Servo large end chamber, or Servo
control pressure. When Servo piston
moves and swash plate angle changes,
the trapezoid plate is followed up and
closes the center spool of VC valve to
be stopped in a balanced position.

20
Direction to Maximum
VC & Servo position
①The high output pressure
enters VC valve and lifts up
Sleeve(2). The passage A
opens and the Servo
pressure in the large end,
PS is drained and the small
end Pump ( or Control)
pressure PH pushes Servo
piston to the right stroke
end.
②The trapezoid cam(8) is
connected with Servo
piston and it pushes up
Spool(3) and closes the
passage A.
( Actually ①and②happens
at the same time and
continuously.)

Direction to Min.
VC & Servo position

①When EPC output

pressure lowers, Spring(1)
pushes down Sleeve(2)
and passage A closes and
passage B opens. Pump
pressure flows into the
large end chamber, PS and
Servo piston is pushed to
left stroke end.

②The trapezoid cam(8) is

connected with Servo
piston and VC valve Spool
(3) also lowers.
( Actually ①and②happens
at the same time and
continuously.)

Arm Quick Return Valve

When the control lever is moved to the arm OUT

position, pilot pressure from the PPC valve
pushes pilot spool (1) and the pressurized oil from
chamber (b) inside the valve is drained through
orifice (c).
The oil in the arm bottom side flows in the
sequence of orifice (a) to chamber (b) to orifice
(c) to drain, and the pressure in chamber (b)
lowers.
If the pressure of chamber(b) drops lower than
the pressure of port (A), port (A) pressure acts on
the ring shaped area (C) formed by the difference
between valve (2) outside diameter (d1) and seat
diameter (d2) (=fd1 area –fd2 area).
Valve (2) moves up, and the pressurized oil is
transmitted from port (A) to port (B). From port (B),
the oil is drained directly to the tank. 25
