 Various tradesmen hand and power tools.

7.2 Pre commencement:

7.2.1 General

1. All applicator and handlers will be professional and must wear a dust/mist filtering
approved respirator. Termite control is usually a job for the licensed pest management
professional.
2. Clean water for eyewash will be provided and should be available for eyewash, face
wash and body wash all the time in case of emergency.

3. Applicator/ handlers must wear the long sleeved shirt and long pants, safety shoes plus
sock chemical resistant gloves.
4. The Storage of the SNIPER (FIPRONOL 5% w/v) SC will be in its original container
shall be kept in the designated area approved by TRSDC.
5. The treatment will be done in accordance with the manufacturer recommendation and
shall be approved by TRSDC.
6. The MSDS and Technical data sheet is attached for the easy reference. All the work
activity sequence shall be accordance to manufacturer’s recommendation.

7. Treatment for the trenching and excavation

• Apply approved soil treatment solution based on the manufacturer’s
recommendations for the locations as identified in the drawing.
• Apply termiticide along outside edges of building. Dig a trench of 150mm to
300mm wide along outside of building to depth of around 300mm. Mix
chemical solution with the soil as it is being replaced in trench.
• Application rates at different locations shall be as recommended by the
manufacturer to achieve horizontal and vertical barriers against infestation.
• Use low nozzle pressure of 25 psi or less; do not treat the entire crawl space
unless covered with untreated soil or barrier and do not treat areas intended
for use as plenums.
• Prior to the application, remove foreign materials/debris, which could decrease
the effectiveness of treatment on areas to be treated. Loosen rake and level soil
to be treated.
• Apply termiticide to soil in critical areas under slabs including entire inside,
around plumbing pipes and electrical conduits penetrating slabs.
• Re-apply soil treatment solution to areas disturbed by subsequent excavation or
other construction.
8. Treatment during construction
Chemical treatment of the soil around or under the foundation of buildings serves as
one of the most important means of isolating a building from termites; it provides
protection from termite attack for many years. Treatment is most effective when done
before and during construction of the foundation and should be used in conjunction
with good construction, not as a substitute for it. It is particularly important when using
concrete slab-on-ground construction.

9. Factors Affecting Termiticide Application

The soil type and its moisture content affect the penetration of pesticides. A soil fill
accepts treatment best when it is damp, but not excessively wet or dry. If the soil is
excessively wet, there is a chance of runoff, and the chemical will not penetrate the
soil. In frozen or excessively dry soil, pesticide emulsions are repelled and puddling
occurs, resulting in poor penetration and distribution of the termiticide. Check the label,
most termiticide labels prohibit applications to be made into saturated or frozen soil.
Mechanical disturbance of treated soil breaks the continuity of the insecticide barrier
and increases the possibility of termite penetration.
10. The treatment of fill under slabs extends probably less than 2 inches deep, with the
majority of the insecticide being in the top 3/4 inch. Therefore, very little disturbance
to the treated soil can be tolerated. A freshly treated slab-foundation site should be
protected with a polyethylene sheet, unless the concrete is to be poured the day of the
treatment. This protects the treatment from rain and evaporation. The final treatment
on the outside of foundation walls should be done after all grading and other soil
disturbances have been completed.
11. A termiticide is stable once it dries in the soil. Because the most commonly used
termiticide are quite insoluble in water.
12. The objective of applying a termiticide to soil is to provide an unbroken chemical
barrier between the Building foundation in the structure and termite colonies in the soil.
Thus, the insecticide must be applied thoroughly and uniformly to block all routes of
termite entry. Treatment is required around all pipes, utility conduits, foundations and
footings that contact the soil. Application procedures will depend on the soil type.
13. According to the manufacturer recommendation only professional applicator/sprayer
can perform the termite control under the supervision of skilled supervisor and shall be
approved by TRSDC.
14. The approved insecticide will be used for the termite control is SNIPER (FIPRONOL
5% w/v) SC
15. The rate at which the insecticide will be applied will be accordance with the
manufacturers recommendation. The treatment will be applied by using the spray
methods.
