1. DESIGN CONSTANTS (For M40 , Fe 500)
3. Design of Section
d = √(M/Rcb) =√((3.380 x 106)/(1.506 x 1000)) = 47.37 mm
From section i.e from deflection point of view,
L/d = 7 (from 23.2.1 clause)
L = l+d/2 = 1300 + (47/2) = 1323 mm say.
For M40 –Fe500 Combination,
Pt limit = (0.85/fy) x 100% = 17%
4. Reinforcement
Ast = M/ (σst x Jc xd ) = 3.380 x 106 / ( 275 x 0.916 x 145.38 ) = 92.3 mm2.
Choosing 8 mm ⌀ bars A⌀ = π/4 x 82 = 50.3 mm2.
Pitch S = (1000 x A⌀)/Ast = (1000 x 50.3)/ 92.3 = 545 mm.
Max Permissible Spacing = 3d or 300 mm whichever is smaller.
Hence provide 8mm ⌀ bars @ 300 mm C/C.
Providing Ast = (1000 x 50.3)/300 = 167 mm2.
5. Embedment of Reinforcement in the Support
In order to develop full tensile strength at the face of the Support, each bar should be
embedded into the support by a length equal to
Ld = 65 ⌀ = 65 x 8 = 520 mm.
This could be achieved by providing one bend of 90°
Where anchorage Value of this bend = 8⌀ = 8 x 8 = 64 mm.
Thus, total anchorage value achieved is
(200 – 35) + 64 + (150 -2 x 35 -4) = 241 mm> Ld.
Hence provide Min development length of 520mm.
7. Distribution Reinforcement
Taking average D = 125 mm
Asd = 0.12 bD /100 = ( 0.12 x 1000 D ) /100 = 1.2 D mm2.
= 1.2 x 125 = 150 mm2.
Using 8 mm⌀ bars having A⌀ = 50.27 mm2,
Pitch S = 1000 A⌀ / Ast = (1000 x 50.27)/ 150 = 335 mm
Hence provide 8mm ø bars @ 300 mm c/c
DESIGN OF CANTILEVER CHAJJA for 0.75 m
3. Design of Section
d = √(M/Rcb) =√((1.1x 106)/(1.506 x 1000)) = 0.86mm
from section i.e from deflection point of view ,
L/d = 7 ( from 23.2.1 clause)
L = l+d/2 = 750 + (0.86/2) = 750.47 mm say.
For M40 –Fe500 Combination,
Pt limit = (0.85/fy) x 100% = 17%
4. Reinforcement
Ast = M/ (σst x Jc xd ) = 1.1 x 106 / ( 275 x 0.916 x 150 ) = 29.11 mm2.
Choosing 8 mm ⌀ bars A⌀ = π/4 x 82 = 50.3 mm2.
Pitch S = (1000 x A⌀)/Ast = (1000 x 50.3)/ 29.11 = mm.
Max Permissible Spacing = 3d or 300 mm whichever is smaller.
Hence provide 8mm ⌀ bars @ 300 mm C/C.
Actual Ast = (1000 x 50.2)/300 = 167 mm2.
5. Embedment of Reinforcement in the Support

embedded into the support by a length equal to

Asd = 0.12 bD /100 = ( 0.12 x 1000 D ) /100 = 1.2 D mm2.
= 1.2 x 150 = 180 mm2.
Using 8 mm⌀ bars having A⌀ = 50.27 mm2,
Pitch S = 1000 A⌀ / Ast = (1000 x 50.27)/ 240 = 209 mm
