1: ALUMINUM LOUVER BLADE | STRAIGHT TYPE

This section is for the analysis of louver on all straight areas. Considering maximum unsupported span of 1,200 mm c/c max.

Partial Plan, Elevation, Section

3.1.1: STRUCTURAL MODEL

STAAD MODEL
The louver blade is modeled and analyzed using STAADpro software. The louver is modeled as stick and assigned properties as per actual
louver geometrical configuration.

STRUCTURAL DIMENSIONS
Dimensions considered are center-to-center. Slight discrepancy is acceptable.

Max overhang span of 0.3m

from center of blade brace
considered.

CS standard 50mm blade brace

with 2pcs rivet nut bolt.

SUPPORT & RELEASES CONSIDERATIONS

All supports are representation

of aluminum louver blade
brace.

TYPE: PINNED
3.1.2: SECTION ASSIGMENT

Assigned STAAD member

equivalent to width of blade
brace. Considering combined
section properties of blade
profile and brace profile.
3.1.3: LOAD APPLICATIONS

PRIMARY LOAD CASES & LOAD COMBINATIONS

Aluminum design is based on LRFD method hence, Load combinations are in accordance with ASCE7 Section 2.3.2.

LOAD DIAGRAM FOR DEAD LOAD

Self-weight automatically calculated by the

software. Additional 10% considered for extra
allowance.
LOAD DIAGRAM FOR WIND LOAD
See section 2.1 for wind pressure values calculation. Wind load applied as x & y local axis of the blade profile. Blades are rotated at a 25 deg
with respect to horizontal.

APPLIED WIND LOAD CALCULATIONS:

WL = 1.6 kPa

Wy = WL (14.41 mm) cos 25°

Wx = 0.021 kN/m
Wx = WL (102.14 mm) sin 25°
= 0.069 kN/m

3.1.4 DEFLECTION CHECKS

CONCLUSION:

δ = 2.862 mm - Max actual deflection

L = 1,200 mm - Max unsupported span

δallow = L/175
= 1,200/175
= 6.85 mm - Allowable

Actual deflection is less than the allowable. Hence, ok!

3.1.5 MAXIMUM RESULTING FORCES

The following values are based on the maximum values of each force regardless of the member instead of locating the most critical member
and extracting the respective force for that member, this approach is more conservative. This software feature will be used for the design and
verification of other frame components also.

FORCES SUMMARY FOR ALUMINUM DESIGN:

Vux = 0.154 kN
Vuy = 0.677 kN
Mux = 0.006 kNm
Muy = 0.015 kNm

Since STAAD doesn’t have the capability to code check

non-standard profiles, we can only extract the maximum
forces and manually calculate the capacities in accordance
with ADM 2015 LRFD method.

See section 3.1.5.1 for the detailed aluminum design.
