Brief description
Engine combustion
Engine combustion refers to the process of burning fuel in an
internal combustion engine to produce power. The fuel is typically
a mixture of gasoline or diesel fuel and air, and the combustion
process generates heat and pressure that drives the engine's pistons.
The process of engine combustion can be broken down into several
stages. First, the fuel and air mixture is introduced into the engine's
combustion chamber, where it is compressed by the piston. Next, a
spark plug ignites the mixture, causing it to burn and release energy
in the form of heat and pressure. This force pushes the piston back
down and turns the crankshaft, which ultimately powers the vehicle.

ACTUALL METHODOLOGY FOLLOWED

There are several factors that can affect engine combustion,
including the quality of the fuel, the amount of air that is allowed
into the combustion chamber, and the timing of the spark plug.
Proper combustion is essential for efficient engine operation and can
have a significant impact on factors such as fuel efficiency, power
output, and emissions.
How Combustion Engines Work
Combustion engines are machines that use heat from burning
fuel to generate power for vehicles, boats, planes, and trains.
They can be classified into internal and external combustion
engines, depending on where the fuel is burned and how the heat is
transferred.
Internal combustion engines (ICE) are more common and efficient,
as they burn the fuel inside cylinders and use the expanding gases
to move pistons and crankshafts.

Internal combustion engine

ICE were invented in the late 18th and early 19th centuries by
various scientists and engineers, such as John Barber, Thomas
Mead, Robert Street, and John Stevens.
The first practical ICE were developed by the French brothers
Nicéphore and Claude Niépce, who used a mixture of air and coal
dust to power a boat in 1807.
ICE have evolved over time to use different fuels, such as gasoline,
diesel, ethanol, and hydrogen, and different designs, such as four-
stroke, two-stroke, rotary, and jet engines.
HOW DOES AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
WORK?
Combustion, also known as burning, is the basic chemical process
of releasing energy from a fuel and air mixture. In an internal
combustion engine (ICE), the ignition and combustion of the fuel
occurs within the engine itself. The engine then partially converts
the energy from the combustion to work. The engine consists of a
fixed cylinder and a moving piston. The expanding combustion
gases push the piston, which in turn rotates the crankshaft.
Ultimately, through a system of gears in the powertrain, this motion
drives the vehicle’s wheels.
There are two kinds of internal combustion engines currently in
production: the spark ignition gasoline engine and the compression
ignition diesel engine. Most of these are four-stroke cycle engines,
meaning four piston strokes are needed to complete a cycle. The
cycle includes four distinct processes: intake, compression,
combustion and power stroke, and exhaust.
Spark ignition gasoline and compression ignition diesel engines
differ in how they supply and ignite the fuel. In a spark ignition
engine, the fuel is mixed with air and then inducted into the cylinder
during the intake process. After the piston compresses the fuel-air
mixture, the spark ignites it, causing combustion. The expansion of
the combustion gases pushes the piston during the power stroke. In
a diesel engine, only air is inducted into the engine and then
compressed. Diesel engines then spray the fuel into the hot
compressed air at a suitable, measured rate, causing it to ignite.

Conclusion
Combustion is necessary for working of engine if there is
incomplete combustion it can cause damage to engine.
Full working principal of engine is dependent on combustion
process.
